We are a family of six, with four kids and a cat 😹, who moved from the USA to Germany in February of 2021 to pursue our dreams of adventure, travel, learning another language, and integrating into German life. One of the first words a foreign mother of small children learns in Germany: "Matschhose".

You as a mom and your kids have sufficiently been germanized: "Test bestanden..!"

In my childhood I had to put on old clothes after school and then my mother gently but persistently pushed me out the front door! No matter if something rained or snowed. Since the other parents also did this with their children, you met of course on the playgrounds or football fields all the other sympathizers. And when the hunger got bigger in the late afternoon you just went home. Also reasonable from my mother's point of view, so she also had her well deserved rest without her bored children around her .And after all the playing, dinner always tasted good 😊

I still get stories from my mom about having to wash me and the neighbors kid down with the garden-hose after playing outside to tell us apart ;)

"Wir sind ja nicht aus Zucker", da macht der Regen ja nichts aus 😄 ich fühle mich ertappt bei diesem Video. Ich liiiebe es wenn unser Kind bei jedem Wetter draußen spielt und schaue wahrscheinlich ungefähr so wie du im Video ☺️

Typical German comment for the American Mom would be: Don't you have a washing machine? 😉

This was about 1 year ago, when the McFalls were still uploading videos. I hope they are ok these days...

When my son came home from Planung outside, I wash him to see, if it's really him and not the neighbour boy😂. He was so dirty. After the bath we had a happy boy sitting on the table to eat his dinner with a healthy face color 😂

😂 that’s the same reaction between American moms and Danish moms.

If they are already dirty and wet, why take them inside so soon, the laundry can wait.

I would stand under my umbrella in our local neglected parking lot with wide but shallow ponds formed during rainstorms. While my kids in rainboots, raincoat & rainpants stomped around as long as they wanted. Other neighbours would wordlessly send their kids to join. 😊 one day a passing female motorist stopped to yell to the kids: “Your mum rocks!”

Laundry Tip: ensure the kids wear all black, brown or navy socks

To quote my mum and sister: "Das wäscht sich aus."

Having seen your videos with your kids, my impression is that these kids would have done exactly the same thing in the USA as in Germany. The difference being that their mother now has been culturally educated.
In my youth, my mother made me wear short trousers from around March 1st - falling a hole in trousers was a bigger problem in her thinking than flesh wounds

Born and raised in the USA and I don’t know any parents like that…

Definitely germanized! Even "playing" the american mom with your hiking boots on! 😅

Haha! I’am American 🇺🇸 but, I have to say I know lots of American moms that would let their kids get dirty in the rain ☔️
