We were DEAD to God! We were unable to do anything, especially anything good towards God. This is just like when Romans 6:11 says:

“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

So now we’re dead to sin and unable to do anything with sin! Praise God!
