That blank button is unacceptable in a $60k+ car.

why do car company feel like they have to reinvent the wheel with their EVs. I hate this trend. Buttons work just fine

Ive always liked the action of putting the key in the ignition and turning it over. I realize most people could care less but it's one of those simple things I find satisfaction in.

Why do you need a button? You press the brake, the car turns on and you put it in drive. There doesn't need to be an extra step. People are strange

Doug thank you for doing quirk shorts

I don’t have enough time (or attention span) to watch the full reviews anymore

this hits the itch

Literally I want the button, this is more safety

The gear selector is essentially the “start button.” Some people just like to complain haha

We transitioned from the key to the button. We'll transition to proximity key too. I like it.

Getting in, stepping on the brake, and shifting into drive reminds me of bumper cars from when I was a kid. Oh except for the shifting into gear part. Kind of similar though and since I'm a toys r' us kid and don't want to grow up I kinda like this idea!

For me in an EV it’s not as bad. The first times I got into the Mini EV of my previous workplace I was so confused even after pressing the button if it actually was on because there was no engine sound xD

Curious about dui laws around this. Like if your drunk and the car is off your good. But what defines turning the car off in this case?

I don't like this "feature" on the Volvos and Polestars. I want the car to turn on when i want it to. My specific use case is often riding on a car ferry and i don't want the car to be on if it's at night and I'm trying to nap. Or on a road trip, I'll take a power nap and don't want all the lights on in the car. A button is no extra effort and allows more choice and control.

We have this, as a replacement for the XC40 & LOVE it, but we have yet to find a way to leave the car running while running inside for an errand or if a pet is with us🤬. Volvo needs to update that one small oversight. Because if you take the key fob the car automatically turns off after around 20-30 feet🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

The fact that they still put the button location bothers me in the lack of oversight and future doug will say when evs were new a quicky feature was a button mark out with no button

This feels like iPhone removing the home button all over again

If I understand this correctly, that means you have to put the car in gear in order to use the infotainment, set air conditioning or any of the other electrical adjustments you'd need to make. Sounds like a bit of a safety concern to me.

It's the same for my Cupra Born. You get in, foot on the break, set it in drive and off you go

I have an MG4 and it's like this. Just get in, set the gear and away you go. The problem is I often sit in my car after parking and it doesn't have an obvious way to be turned off. You have to go into a menu and shut the car down which is stupid. I'd much prefer the car has some magic long-press button (e.g. long press the PARK button, or the door locks) which can be used as a turn off function
