Thank you for making this video!!! I got Skyla in June and it's by far the BEST form of BC I've ever used. I looked on YouTube for reviews of Skyla back in May and couldn't find any.. This is such a wonderful comprehensive review! I had ParaGard for almost 3 years with terrible cramps and heavy bleeding. I'm also allergic to nickel and I didn't know that PG contained it, . I'm completely shocked my Dr never thought my debilitating cramps could have been caused by an allergic reaction :( I had to switch to Skyla because I was in so much pain from PG. With Skyla I spotted for months and now I really don't have a period. I also don't get a sharp stabby feeling like I used to get with PG, Skyla is so small I don't ever feel it!

Hi Kiera, just wanted to share with you, levonorgestrel is the same kind of synthetic progestin that is in my combined birth control pill, levlen, and in the skyla, mirena and liletta IUD's. They're just in different dosages, and, of course, my pill is a combined pill, so also has ethinyloestradiol (estrogen). The minipill also mostly uses the same type of synthetic progestin.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience :)

I had the same experience when I asked my gyno for the copper iud. She said straight up that bc I've never had kids it would be wayy too big and wouldn't fit. She just flat out told me no but I had already spoken to a family friend who's daughter has an iud and she doesn't have kids so I knew that she was bullshitting me. I ended up going to a different gyno where they actually listened to my wants and needs, and she actually did an ultrasound measuring of my uterus that day to make sure it would fit, and I went through all the testing and everything for it, all approved. Then I went when I was on my period and they did the insertion. Sorry for how long this is, I just wanted to tell you that sometimes bc you're young doctors won't listen to you. I'm 22 and my gyno still wouldn't listen to me so I switched to someone who would. i don't know if they actually measured your uterus before telling you no or if they just told you no, but if you're still interested in the Paragard, I would consider getting a second opinion.

Very informative; however Skyla and other IUDs that do release LNG do not release it through your bloodstream like you stated. Instead the hormone is released directly into the uterus which is why the LNG has fewer effects on the body since it’s not traveling through the bloodstream

FWIW, I had a Paragard IUD inserted in 2005 (had in til 2011?) and I am 5'1" and was probably about 115 pounds at the time. I don't know how my body is compared to yours, but I thought I would mention it. It might seem big, but it's not that big. Maybe by the time you need to replace Skyla, you might be able to go for a copper one…assuming you aren't going to have allergic issues. But congrats on getting this. I am happy to see a smaller one out now that is suitable for younger women.

Thank you for making this video! I'm getting the Liletta soon but I might do a video for Liletta as well as there's not a lot of women out there who knows about this brand of IUD.

You are an amazing person for doing this video. You are helping a lot of young women out there to research the best birth control for them. More power to ya!

Are you acne prone? Did Skyla make you break out? Your skin looks beautiful.. I think I might see one blemish but other than that, girl I had the mirena and my skin was HORRIBLE. I think it was way too big and strong for me and the hormones overloaded my system.. I’m afraid this could happen again with skyla though I do want to try.

I have the copper iud and my doctor is switching me to skyla because my periods and cramping are too severe, I too want to stay away from hormones so hopefully i have a good outcome!

Hey! I know this video was a few years ago, do you still have the Skyla? I had the Mirena and loved it and didn't get my period after being on it for a few months. Do you think I would get the same result from Skyla? I want to limit the amount of hormones but debating on getting Mirena again because I know I will probably stop having periods.

Thank you for your review! I am getting this soon and I was wondering if you could tell me if you have had any side effects? I am concerned about gaining weight and and losing my sex drive. I am a very natural person as well but, my doctor also discussed with me how low the hormones are in Skyla as well! If you can answer my questions before I get it that would be fantastic! Thank you!

How long did it take for your period to get lighter? I was on the pill for YEARS and got so used to 2 day periods and now that I've gotten skyla in 3/4 moths ago my period is now a full 7 days!

Im in the same situation. Never want kids, latex allergy & have skyla. How would I go about getting serialized? What age do Dr's consider it? Do you know the side effect of that? Thanks.

Your period is probably not late but you have a longer cycle. I know most apps default to 28 day cycles but maybe yours is 29. That happened to me when I first started using an app until my doctor told me to adjust it so my cycle was 27 days.

I might be getting the paraguard IUD which is mom hormonal

Wouldn’t recommend iud. Can cause heavy metal poisoning, infertility even after removed and can cause abortion as it can prevent embryos inserting in the uterus lining which kills them. (I am a woman on family member’s account btw)
