A diabetes expert answers two important questions: What diet is best for treating diabetes? And how can you tell whether the advice about diabetes you've seen is credible?

Dr. Hana Kahleova, a member of an expert health panel that creates guidelines for all Europeans to follow, discusses the new recommendations from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.

Dr. Kahleova reveals why minimally processed foods, including fruit, is optimal for regulating blood sugar while low-carbohydrate diets that are big on red and processed meat can make diabetes worse.

She also shares how you can tell whether something you've read or been told about diabetes is credible when she joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Podcast.

I’m so grateful to have found this plant based lifestyle. To anyone thinking about trying it, start today, you won’t regret it!
My skin, leaky gut, congestion and allergies were finally able to heal. I went vegetarian 19 years ago, still struggled with my health, then decided to be vegan 8 years ago this month. I spent a few years experimenting with different ways of eating veg to see what works best for my body. Eating whole food plant-exclusive, SOS free, low fat, high raw 75% +… dramatically improved the quality of my life. My energy and happiness, my physical, mental and emotional health, everything changed! Best decision I ever made for my health.

You know that when you say "take two" the editor should think about cutting out take one, right.

I love this channel and always learn so much from every episode I watch! Thanks for being such a wonderful resource for me and so many others on this wfpb journey. My husband and I have been completely plant based for the past 2.5 years and are absolutely loving the results we've received from changing over our diet, omitting animal products, and incorporation all wholesome plant based foods! I'm not sure where to drop this question, but I'd LOVE to hear Dr. Barnard talk about ways to treat Candida overgrowth while on a plant based whole foods diet! It's been so hard to find very much information about this subject-- and I'd be SO GRATEFUL to hear what he has to say! Thank you so much!!!

My Mom was Type 1 diabetic for 79 years, diagnosed in 1942 at age 10. She's my adopted Mom, not the woman who gave birth to me. She had a heart attack at age 81, then quadruple heart bypass surgery, then had to be on kidney dialysis for 20 hours per week for the last 9 years of her life. Although she lived to almost 90 years old, her quality of life in her older years could have been so much better had she just walked more, ate less processed/ less quick-and-easy foods, and been more strict with her diet.

At 10:43, talking about meta analysis, I'm always skeptical when I start reading a meta analysis, since they are fraught with opportunity to manipulate data and simply prove your point by choosing the studies to analyse, and weighting factors inappropriately,

The study abstract says nothing about limiting non-tropical oils or eating low-fat. If this is what the preponderance of evidence says, why do PCRM specifically recommend a low fat diet if the evidence isn’t there?

I have a random question not associated with this video... but I am super curious and I have never seen you guys cover this. My husband and I went whole food plant based after his heart attack in 2020. One thing we have noticed since then (in addition to all the other benefits you guys do talk about) is the heels of our feet have become healthy and smoother and not dry or cracked / scaling anymore.... any idea why this would be the case?

Isn't canola oil gmo? I might use canola if it was non gmo & not sprayed with toxins.

Hummm. Hana is the author of a Vegetarian Diet book. I wonder if there were also writers or experts on the Mediterranean diet or the high fat low carb diet or intermittent fasting in her research committee. Her explanations of the results are too vague. Someone who is diabetic has to change his lifestyle for the rest of his life. That is a very difficult adjustment for many people. If there are other solutions that are also very effective, Hana should mention them. The patient can then choose which effective diet fits his new lifestyle. The boolet train may be the fastest, but that train may be unnecessarily heavy for an individual. In short, a patient simply wants to know which diets are very effective. This is not mentioned by Hana and that is a shame.😢

I kept waiting to here issues with chicken, fish, Eggs and other animal products. Why weren’t they mentioned pro or con for diabetics??

If you Fail to specify- people will continue to eat Fried chicken, eggs, etc..

What?! We can eat nuts, seeds, and veggie/olive oils?! I thought people were supposed to eat VERY low fat to get blood sugar down.

What do you think about the man that is eating only McDonald's 1/2 portion meals 3 times a day for 100 days and he is losing weight and his blood test have improved? He is on Tik-Tok and had been on many of the big news stations. All the comments I'm reading people are all excited about this 😢 I think it is sending the wrong message. His wife is doing it for 60 days with the same results. I ask her about her digestive system and she said it's fine. Then I mentioned how I read so much about processed food and cancer and she doesn't think McDonald's food is processed 😮 I left it at that because people are going to believe what they want. They are not young people but I will say very likeable. I just feel bad for what people are doing to their health. I also wanted to mention McDonald's has no fiber. Maybe after the 100 days is over they will start a healthy plan.
