Best way to eliminate traffic is to remove all parking in the city and remove outside road connections. If you have a good public transit system, barely anyone will drive

1. RCO zones can be weaved together, especially in your downtown. Add pedestrian paths so they can be mobile.
2. Scatter your Industrial buildings all over yout map. Putting all of them in one giant district will create huge amounts of traffic.
3. If you’re planning to create a big metropolis, create mini downtowns so people don’t rely heavily on your main downtown area.
4. If you want to do suburban sprawls. Make sure you have good bus coverage.
5. On a very big downtown area, try to create multiple highway access to decongest your main street. You can mimic Dubai’s technique of putting mini entrance or exits to a service road that runs parallel to your highway.
6. Sprinkle commercials and small offices to your suburbs. Only America is so obsessed with boring suburbs. The entire world does it differently. In other countries you can find groceries and stores inside a gated community - also clinics, small offices and other conveniences. This will add life to your suburbs.
7. Bus aren’t good for long trips unless you want it to function as a tourist bus.
Bus collects people -> Drops them to Trams / Metros -> Metros and Trams move people to different parts of your city.
8. Trains, Ship, Planes function as your main regional access. Building them decreases highway traffic. Tourists won’t rely to taxi or cars when going in and out of your city.
9. Have fun and make mistakes. No city is perfect in real life.

Traffic would be easier if the Traffic AI was a bit smarter (like promised). Sadly it's still rather dumb just like in CS1. I'm talking merging late over multiple lanes, taking highway exits just to U-Turn onto the onramp to the same exact highway, stopping at roundabouts even though they're clear, not giving way/move over for emergency vehicles...I could go on and on. Rather disappointed since a better Traffic AI was one of the highlight videos before release.

a bug is when they stop and go on the highway randomly when a traffic jam is cleared, but they stop right infront of the traffic notification. it always causes traffic, or when they cut 5 lanes over to the exit

Hey roundabouts are actually less efficient for high traffic and can get deadlocked. Use them for low to medium traffic.

"This is how you manage traffic in Cities Skylines II"

Or in Cities Skylines I, but no one bothered to learn then, either.

Like in real life, if your public transpo sucks and inefficient, people will less likely to use it.
Good example is Dubai, they got metro, buses, etc but the travel time takes too long which makes it suck. If you took a taxi or drive, you’ll arrive in 30 mins. If you use public transpo here, you’ll spend an hour or two just to get to your destination.

Very nice little short! Thanks for showing off the potential of pedestrianization

Just make a bunch of districts and select "gate community" all the traffic will be concentrated on the highway system and the neighborhoods will be traffic free.

If trams and metro where working that would be cool... but it's bugged

The American mind could never comprehend this information

Want to prevent constant U-turns? Make all one way roads in a shifting pattern alternating directions every other block.
No traffic jams unless there is a cross walker or car accident..

Best way to go is implementing everything needed to make it hell to drive.
$50 parking (and almost none of it available), build smaller roads with most space reserved for city vehicles, pedestrian only streets for residential blocks, banning non-electric vehicles, speed bumps and lower limits everywhere, etc.

And in the meantime invest a crapton into amazing transit oriented development and make it all free.

This also applies to Cities Skylines 1, I started my first city in a very long time with a very typical noob rectangular build, but all the traffic has been controled by building a good intersection connecting industrial with mixed residential and commercial zones

Its as broken if not more then CS1, we still have the random lane change issue. Causing huge pileups no matter how many lanes and other connections are made.

The "Sims" actually handle public transport really well, I have 15k pop and 25k use public transport each month, seems quite good

American players: Understood, a 10 lane highway, massive sprawl of low density and every service on the tiny downtown, on the way

Too bad cargo trains don't work at all
