5 QUICK TRAFFIC FLOW TIPS | Cities: Skylines 2

In this Cities: Skylines 2 video I will be showing you how improve / fix traffic flow in your city.

First tip we look at is turning off traffic lights. Most traffic lights in your city are unneeded and could do with being turned off. We talk about how there are some situations where traffic lights are a good idea, like when two four or six lane roads are meeting into a junction / intersection. But if you have traffic lights when a small 2 lane road is joining a larger 4 lane road or 6 lane road then traffic lights aren't usually needed unless its a very busy junction / intersection. Then we talk about how stop signs will do a decent job of improving traffic flow if you think that having no traffic lights is unsafe or unrealistic.

Next tip we talk about how removing crosswalks / zebra crossings can help fix traffic flow. If crosswalks are removed then less people are going to cross that road which means traffic is not having to stop for crossing citizens which will improve traffic flow. But you must make sure you create an alternative route for your walking citizens to use (for example a pedestrian footpath) as if they cannot walk to where they need to be then they are going to drive which means more traffic on your city's roads.

Tip 3 is to add roundabouts around your city. Roundabouts in Cities Skylines 2 are a lot better than roundabouts in Cities Skylines 1. So add a few in around your city and they will definitely help improve your traffic flow.

Tip 4 is to try and avoid big 4 or 6 lane road intersections / junctions, if you have these in your city then you'll likely have traffic problems with it eventually. If you do have large intersections / junctions in your city and they are becoming a traffic problem then try a few no turning signs, this can help stop traffic from crossing over each other on the junction.

The final tip is to add more lanes at the entrance of junctions / intersections. This will create dedicated turning lanes. Using asymmetrical lanes will also create dedicated turning lanes. Dedicated turning lanes will improve or fix traffic flow as it will reduce the ques tailing back at junctions.

I miss the option where I can place STOP sign on the both sides of big road, so the small roads crossing with big road have STOP but you can go straight on big road with no stop sign (so basic option in CS1 forgotten in CS2... why?! )

If you want the best traffic flow. Close off your city from any outside connections.
Build a round about with a pedestrian path into the city. Taxis will dropoff any new arrivals and they will walk into your city.
Now there will be zero "transporter" drivers entering your city..

None of this have any effect on a real busy cross, because Traffic AI in this game is just horrible.
A car in a roundabout reserves the entire path, so the roundabout is basically half empty while a lot of cars try to go in.
Second traffic lights are horrible for the simple fact it allows left turn at the same time of straight traffic from opposite lane. This is just plain stupid. A busy intersection of 4 roads should have a traffic light with 4 phases not only 2.

Roundabouts are kind of terrible above 3-4 lanes. They do their job well for smaller roads.

Why do you sound like you are speaking with a razor blade in your mouth and trying not to get cut?

Almost never do tip 4. Traffic doesn't just want to get through your junction it wants to get start to end. If you prevent it's turn maybe it has to go though 4 other junctions

Removing crosswalks does absolutely nothing. The Sims are still crossing the street, even without it.
