My wife’s TL has been running for 230k miles on 87 octane. Sounds and runs excellent.

I just bought a 2013 TL. The guy at Honda told me to use 87. He verified it with a master mechanic. It’s an Accord engine.

I’ve used regular 87 on my 4th-Gen before and I can feel a difference right away. The car feels a bit weaker, and fuel economy falls a bit too. And when I load the engine in certain situations (like climbing a steep hill) I can hear some engine knock.

I would never use a lower grade gas in my TL. I remember back in the day when 7 Eleven had 87 88 89 90 91 93 octane levels.

I’ve been using 89 octane to save money. Nobody seems to talk about it

Shell premium is the best gas for these 4g TL. It's formulated for a clean burn and eliminates gunk build up which will cause your car to slow down over time.

i used 91 and i haven't had any problems for the pass 5 years

91 and 93 octane still contain ethanol. You have to specifically get ethanol-free gasoline if you don't want ethanol. Ethanol actually increases octane level in fuel, so they have even more incentive to add it to high-octane fuel. Also, not recommending anyone do this- but I've been running 87 octane in my 2004 Acura TL (which supposedly requires premium) for the past 3 years or so with no noticeable difference. I still get the exact same fuel efficiency. I heard that it does reduce the power a bit but I don't really have reason to drag race my car so I don't notice any difference.

My wife uses 87 and it does fine. Gas mileage is the same and it has 230k miles on it. You have no evidence in this video.

For what it is worth I haven't noticed any knocking in my TL running 87. Back in 2004-2008 for the 3rd gen gas was straight gas, and wasn't what is called e-10 now. Ethanol has a higher octane rating and natural resistance to knock. If you are worried about it get 89, but I haven't noticed much of a difference between 87 and 93. Certainly a bit more peppy with the 93 as the car advances the timing more, but its not drastic. I always use lucas upper cylinder treatment in all my cars and that very well help with preventing knock using e10 87. That being said straight 87 gas has less knock resistance than E10 87 octane. E10 87 is close to the same knock resistance as straight 89.

I use regular as of right now. Does anyone know how to start using premium?

Which should be better for a 2012 Acura TL, 91 or 93?

I have a slight engine knock right now because I put regular in my TL. If I put premium in it will it stop knocking?

All automotive gas has ethanol, unless you buy ethanol free
