Many people think that certain cars NEED premium gas; however, this is not true. There are definitely many benefits that come along with putting premium gas into your car, but the car can definitely run with regular gasoline. This video explains why your car doesn't need premium gasoline, and also outlines the benefits of staying true to your owner's manual and putting the more expensive gas in your car.

I put Shell VPower in my luxury vehicle and instantly noticed a smoother acceleration and no jerkiness when accelerating quicker than usual like when I merge into highways. Convinced a friend to fill up with Shell V Power and he too could notice a difference. I'd highly recommend getting premium gas for cars that recommend it.

On average using premium fuel equates to $240 more per year. Which is $20 per month, $5 more per week and roughly .71 cents more per day. If your owners manual calls for premium why take the risk and put in anything less.

He really makes good sense. Most of negative comments are distracted by his lack of fashion protocol.

If your vehicle requires premium stick with premium. If your vehicle recommends premium in most cases you have the option to run regular with a decrease in performance. Check your owner's manual. That's said in my opinion you bought a car that takes premium for a reason stick with the premium to get the best use out of your vehicle.

It’s probably more important to not drive distracted. Not only does it protect your vehicle, but it protects the person driving it.

you do realize why performance vehicles need 91 right? higher octane burns slower reducing pinging over time. if you can't afford premium lower octane is fine but your engine will ping and create wear faster over time.

Thank you. I don't understand the comments here. This was the perfect video to answer the question I've always had as do others (we all searched this out). Now I know that I can.... but for best performance it's better to stick with what's recommended. If you have a premium car and can't afford the gas, how do you expect to pay the high cost of maintenance that comes with it (AudiA3). Again great job in making this right to the point and in under 14 mins. Videos are way too long for a simple answer we're seeking.

Depends on 'recommended' or 'required'.

I was curios if you could use regular gas and an octane boost additive to get the same result?

On a trip down to Arkansas, I happen to had to fill up my Lexus IS250 with 87 since the local Conoco gas station in the small town I stayed in for the week did not carry any other higher octane level gasoline and the closest gas station that did carry 91 was 30 minutes away (an hour to go pump gas is not ideal unless it was a trip to a big Walmart which I should had done the day before). For anyone that has not been to Arkansas, its crazy how Arkansas has gas station size Walmart, Walgreen size Walmart, and your normal big size Walmart littered throughout the state; they love their Walmart.

On 87 gas my car felt heavy and had a hard time accelerating, no engine knocking sound of any kind but the car was not as responsive as it should be. It had a 3 second response delay when the gas pedal was pushed down all the way.

A full tank of 87 gas does not last as long as a full tank of 91 gas in a 91 recommended car. I usually pump 93 gas from BP since a full tank of 93 last longer vs a full tank of 91. I get about 1/4 of a tank for more miles on a full tank of BP 93, that's about close to 80-100 more miles with using 93 vs 91 on a full tank. However I notice that my car accelerates way faster and the gas pedal responds much quicker on 91 gas than on 93 gas.

87 gas for any 91 recommended car is not recommended. Your car will burn through the gas in no time and the performance of your car will be out of whack. Its a waste of cash, only fill up your car with it if you have no other options. Rather use 89 than 87 if those are the only two options, but they might preform the same.

91 gas for my Lexus IS250 makes my car feel actually like a smooth small compact sport car that response well to the gas pedal.

93 gas for my Lexus IS250 makes my car feel like its an old school Corolla, fuel efficient and just enough power when needed to get around. I like to save money so this is the gasoline grade I use.

premium required cars need premium fuel or it could cause damage a premium recommend car can use lower octane but it will effect performance but shouldn't damage the engine.
