been doing this for months and have found this to be very helpful: Do a mini chore every time before you leave a room. Put some thing back where it belongs, fold a few piece of laundry, anything. Over time, the room gets tidier without needing to set aside time and gather the motivation for a cleaning. And more often than not, you do more than a "mini chore" when you have started as you have gotten yourself going and might as well do this/that while you are already at it. My room has never been tidier.

I kind of trained myself that if I am watching TV when a commercial comes on I have to get up and do a chore like put dishes in dishwasher and clean the counter or throw in a load of laundry/Fold laundry/ put laundry away. Quickly dust/ vacuum whatever I can do during a commercial! So far it's been working for me for quite a long time now.

Another declutter tip: keep a paper grocery-type bag in your closet, that’s the key part…in your closet. As you see your clothes everyday in your closet, that’s where you put the clothes you decide to get rid of….till the bag fills up

When my children were still in school, I used to have a basket for each of them in the livingroom, and when I tidy I would just put their things in there. Of course they wouldn't put it away and it would just sit there acumulating more stuff, untill I started to empty their baskets on their beds, so they had to deal with it before they lie down. And teenagers lie down a lot!

Having small kids, I know the stress of clutter 😆. The 5 second rule is a very helpful tip. If something can be done quickly, just get it done right away!

If you have a kitchen table that's more often used as a catch-all for mail and other clutter than it is for actually eating, go ahead and set the table. With plates and silverware and glasses and napkins and such all set up ready for a meal, you'll be less likely to toss a bunch of crap on there.

🌹I'm 48 years old living in Las Vegas I'm hoping to retire at 55 if things keep going well for me.
Bought my first house last month and I can't be more proud of myself. I'm glad i made a great decision about my finances that change me
for ever

I tried having a pile to return to upstairs/downstairs but the pile/basket/box was still a source of stress for me. Now I just try to be efficient - I try to never leave a space without looking for something, anything, that goes where I’m going next or passing.

Never go empty handed unless there’s nothing to put away, yay!

Great video! I’m going to try the 5 second rule. Thanks!

When my husband and I were out of our house during construction, I only missed a few things in our hotel. Now that we are home I'm realizing more that I don't need 75% of my belongings. I have boxes everywhere. We've gone through about 15 of them, I guess but still have more to consider.
We are slobs by nature and reforming is a process. I do try to keep my kitchen approachable for the morning. A shiny sink looks good for us. Thanks for the video Gabe. You are very helpful 🙂

Those little actions really add up. I try to leave a room neat. My kitchen and social space is pretty much cleaned up each evening. I keep up with myself and deal with small messes before they multiply. This makes my daily life so much easier, less stressful.

My morning routine includes journaling. It’s now a consistent part of my day

I've practiced all of these over the years and they really add up when you do them on a daily basis. Lately I've been working on using up ingredients I've collected in my pantry but don't really use on a regular rotation. I applied the hanger rule to my pantry, only have a certain number of jars and containers. When I'm tempted to buy a new or fun looking ingredient I have to decide which jar I'm going to put it in. If there are no free containers I don't buy that item. It's nice to only have what I use in stock!

Never leave a room empty-handed. There's always something that needs to be somewhere else, so take it with you and drop it off where it needs to be.

Unbelievable of how you just described in details my daily chores: plain, simple, doesn't require a lot of thinking...all make sense right? Unfortunately I am unable to motivate my better half to do stuff this way or any way at all. All those things are leaning on my shoulders and I feel lonely in keeping my house a bright, organized and a happy place. Any couple therapy tips?😅

My mother taught me to put three things away when you enter a room. When I walk into a room and there are no things to be put away, I feel great!

Declutter one small area by throwing out what is in the way, and then organize only what is left. Declutter in the morning before decision fatigue for the day sets in.

I have been stuck not decluttering for quite a while. Listening to your decluttering videos has started to move the needle! The questions to ask myself has really really helped me give some stuff away I had kept before!! THANK YOU! 😊

I have started setting the timer on my phone! Say for one hour. I work solidly for that hour and if I haven’t finished the chore in that time I generally keep going til it’s done.
