I exist because of an He111. The bombardier realized he hasn’t dropped all their bombs, so on his way back dropped it randomly. It managed to hit and destroy the corner of a church. After the war two architects were contracted to repair the church, and that’s how my grandparent met.

You Brits are a smart bunch and I'm proud my country has its history with you.

There were many factors in Britain's victory in the BoB. Air Marshal Dowding planned his strategy during the 1930s. He insisted that technological breakthroughs such as radar, the Spitfire with Merlin engine etc. were implemented. He conceived the strategy of interception of incoming raids. This saved fuel compared to standing air patrols and allowed fighters maximum combat time. He also had to tell the idiot Churchill where to get off when the PM wanted to send Spitfires to France when British aircraft were being captured on the ground. Dowding also had to contend with ill-disciplined fools such as Douglas Bader, whom he asked in a diary entry on whose side he was. Dowding was a genius to whom we owe a great deal.

The switching of targets from RAF bases to cities was a huge part too.

The planning and coordination could not have been done any better with the cards they were delt.Thats ingeniousness at it's finest against a war machine not to be underestimated.

If only the Brits continue this legacy of improving and upgrading their existing defence systems, then the world might look up at British military with respect

Radar and the big plotting table would not have won the air war on their own.
The number and quality of fighters - both human and machine was crucial. Luckily for Britain, its defence planners assumed that Luftwaffe squadrons comprised approximately the same number of aircraft as RAF squadrons, when in fact each luftwaffe squadron had significantly fewer aircraft than RAF squadrons. This caused British defence planners to over-estimate luftwaffe's total strength, which played to RAF advantage. Another bit of luck was that the RAF had enough Spitfires to deal with the Me109's ĺand enough Hurricanes to deal with the Heinkel twin engine bombers.

May God bless all the defenders. My mother was Irish but moved to London to work at the Admiralty - Much like the American Pentagon. Daily, there would be air raid sirens, 😮and everyone would go down into the Yube (subway tunnels). She told me of people who were blown up next to her and all around her. The Nazis were intent on hitting the Admiralty. I'm not sure if they did, but I know that Mamma didn't quit. No surrender, ever. She met my Dad on VE day. He was an anti-aircraft gunner in the US Army.

It's amazing how those brave people defended England, especially with their limited resources. It's a shame that we are being invaded by small boats coming across the channel with no without being challenged. 😢

A major factor was the quality of the fuel the British received from the US. 115/145 octane vs the 90 octane fuel the Germans were receiving from Romania and the Soviet Union. British aircraft just performed better.

I wonder, which black African invented that radar...

Radar, penicillin, and cracking the Enigma code were three of the biggest British contributions to Allies winning the war

I operated radar in the mid 80’s into the 90’s. It was one aspect of my many aspect job that I did in the navy. It was the most interesting job I ever did.

Fun fact hitler thought he had a mole on the top levels on the nazi party because Britain always knew what direction the bombers was coming from when in reality it was the radar system that gave them an edge 😂😂😂
