this will make her do exactly what you don’t want her to do

"i don't want her to associate any food with guilt" proceeds to associate chocolate chip cookies with junk food and gives her an alternative

i appreciate the sentiment girl but.. if im asking for a cookie i would definitely not want or expect this 😭 it's not a substitute for a cookie just give her the damn cookie 😢

This reminds me how my mom taught me as a kid that there is a difference between sweets and meals. Because a meal is to nourish our body and snacks are tasty but never a meal replacement. Before I was allowed to eat snacks I had to eat breakfast or dinner, depending on the time of day. It maybe wasn't a perfect approach but I do think that it helped avoid guilt over certain foods for me :)

So, I’d imagine if she asks for pizza you give her tomato sauce on toast..

If you don't give her a normal cookie though, wouldn't she associate them with guilt and think that she's only allowed to eat "healthy cookies" instead?

I'm sorry but how is it "guilt association " by saying you can't eat a cookie for breakfast? It's not that they're bad, you actually can make a very healthy oatmeal raisin cookie (and not what you made), but it's still a cookie and won't fill you up till lunch. That's what I'd tell my kid. And then put a really good cookie in their lunch. 😊

My mom tried this on me and I’d call them fake cookies because I could taste the difference. As an adult I now joke about how she was feeding me “fabrications” and “lies” 😂

She’s gonna say “no mom a real cookie” 😂😂

Girl.... I would just get her the cookie. But if you want her to be more healthy get her a banana chocolate-chip muffin or something and give her a glass of milk with it. Because giving her rubbery oatmeal and telling her its a replacement for a cookie will just mess up her perspective of food as well. You're doing the opposite of what you think you're doing. Now she is going to associate a regular cookie with guilt 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

“i dont wanna associate any foods with guilt” but this is EXACTLY what will make ur child guilty about eating certain food from now on🤷‍♀️

“So good”
5 seconds later:
“That is disgusting. God.”

It’s like your child asked for a donut and you took a apple, dunked it in chocolate and said it was a donut.

I am a maniac when it comes to nutrition and a firm believer in allowing your child to make good decisions. I also know parents will do anything to get nutrition into a child. So any way you can do it is great.

this would make me feel more guilty than being told i can’t have a cookie

That may be tasty, but it's not a cookie. If your daughter ask for cookie, you either give her cookie or don't give her cookie, but don't tell her that she will have cookie and then give her banana with oats.

Y’all she’s not saying it’s a real cookie, it’s just a good substitute. A child can’t have a real cookie every single time they ask for one, then it becomes an unhealthy habit. I say as long as they still get the real thing sometimes, there’s nothing wrong with this. Though with the caveat that she’ll say to her kid that it’s more of a circular snack bar than a cookie.

I feel like its better to just tell her to eat a real cookie as a snack later. Children arent dumb, this does NOT taste the same. And you can have something as an occasional snack without having it associated with guilt.

I had a similar mother, in kindergarten I already stole snacks and all the other things that she wouldn't let me eat from other children, let the little girl taste the damn biscuits, behaving like that will only bring her problems and a problematic relationship with food, mothers' fixations end up ruining their children's life
