CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ryan (George Clooney) talks to his sister's groom (Danny McBride) when he gets cold feet.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jason Reitman's adaptation of the novel Up in the Air tells the story of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), who makes his living personally handing out pink slips -- he's the top hatchet man at a company that other companies hire when they are downsizing. And since business is booming, his job keeps him on the go constantly. He flies all across the country, staying in a series of nice hotels. And although this itinerant lifestyle prevents him from having any kind of stable, regular life, this doesn't bother him in the slightest -- he's thrilled to be a boy in a traveling bubble. During one particular layover, he strikes up a conversation with Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga), a fellow savvy traveler. They bond over the ins and outs of various airlines and hotels, and quickly fall into bed. By morning, they are figuring out when their schedules will allow them to meet up again, even though they both make it clear that there are no strings attached. When Ryan arrives back in the home office, he meets no-nonsense career-oriented twentysomething Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick), a fast-rising up-and-comer who wants to change the company's practices and save millions by having the staff fire people remotely via webcams. Furious at the thought of losing a lifestyle he's grown quite comfortable with, he convinces his boss (Jason Bateman) to let him take Natalie on a few trips so that she can learn what it's really like to fire someone. Melanie Lynskey, Danny McBride, and J.K. Simmons co-star in this Best Picture Academy Award nominee.

"Life's better with company." Simple and profound.

This scene is expertly written and played. Clooney is supposedly trying to convince the other guy to "go get her, " but he's also re-examining his own life. It's low-key with no big emotional blow-ups.Great stuff.

He's reading The Velveteen Rabbit, a book that says you don't become real until another person cares enough about you. This is called "Symbolism" folks.

The subtlety in this movie is incredible. This scene is a piece of art. To Clooney's character, these are platitudes that he is espousing that are motivated by an underlying sense of narcissist superiority he feels towards the average, everyday schmuck. He knows this very well about himself, but is an expert at mimicking empathy and convincing others that he's sincere. This is the exact pathology of the corporate world and that's one of the deeper messages in the film. This movie is really a critique that highlights the emptiness of the political, economic, and social aspects of our society. I get a kick out of the brand fetishism in the movie. (Hotel brands, airline programs, car rentals).

When I watched this and he asked "your favorite memories, the most important moments of your life - were you alone" I started crying... Because I was alone in all of my favorite memories. How sad is that... :(

He went on to become one of the greatest mlb pitchers ever. He wriiten a couple of books and hosted his own sports tv show. Not bad for a guy who was fired.

Up In The Air is my favorite movie and also my favorite performance from Clooney. I genuinely wished he would've won the Oscar for this role. Someone said in another comment that the subtlety in this movie is incredible. That's exactly right. Oscar movies these days are just baiting with some insanity such as sobbing drama, big emotional scenes or juicy plots. This movie is none of that. It is slick, modern and real. People said Clooney was playing himself as a charming lone wolf. That's missing the point. The part that Clooney did so wonderfully was the scenes that he did one-on-one with other actors in the movie. The subtlety how he delivered the dialogues via the way he talked and his facial expressions were brilliant. He elevated his co-stars on these scenes as well. This scene is one of them. The flirting scene with Vera Farmiga at the bar, the kissing scene also with Farmiga at his high school, the boat scene with Farmiga as well well. Then, literally every scene Kendrick was like that. My favorite of all was the scene when he talked on the phone with Farmiga on the people mover at the airport when she was in her car. Simply heartbreaking. He didn't even say much on that scene and his facial expression said it all. Beautiful scene. Must-watch movie.

Got some favorite/important parts in my life with company and some alone... Not sure how I feel about trying to convince someone of something YOU'RE not even fully on board with.. Great scene nontheless

"Everybody needs a copilot." Tell that to the pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525. His copilot locked him out of the cockpit and crashed the plane, killing all 150 people on board.

I like the clips, but I am pissed about the loud music at the end, especially when it's abruptly following a quiet piece of dialogue like this one.

😂😂😂😂 the irony (even if it is a movie) of having a happily 'unmarried' man try to convince another guy that marriage is worth it. I swear I cackled loudly in the theater at this part!

Someone once said to me "Whether you get married and have kids or whether you don't get married and have kids... in both instances, you'll live to regret it" haha :-)

One should see, how logical and practical chat turned into emotional fool drama.
