I'm born and raised in Tangier, and this episode does perfect justice in narrating fragments of the magical history of the city whilst highlighting the issue of modernization. Tangier is no longer a cultural haven where critical minds meet and get inspired unfortunately, it has grown beyond measure and it is no longer a place to gatekeep as an escape resort. However, it still retains its charm of being a place where the past and the present perfectly co-exist. Thank you Mr.Bourdain, may your soul rest in peace.

What I love the most about Bourdain is that he's authentic, nothing fake about him, I meet people all the time who tell me I visited Morocco but what they actually visit are the Instagram reels and the Westernized versions of cities like Tangier, Fes and Marrakech, but Bourdain always goes to the roots of what makes a city special and you gotta admire his authenticity.

Grew up watching Tony’s shows with my father he was visibly sad when I told him he passed. We’ve been binging these episodes for three days now

I was born two months before Bourdain. Have seen pretty much all of his opus; read his books, and the ones he read. He was a great man. He lived more in a month than people live in a lifetime.

"I've always wanted to get away as far away as possible from the place that I was born. Far both geographically and spiritually. To leave it behind".

“Some people have to leave home to find their home”.

I have just realised unconsciously after all the years of travelling why I do what I do. Thank you for sharing light on something we have in common Anthony.

Paula Wolfert spent time in Morocco along with Paul Bowles and Kerouac. She is an amazing food writer. Tangier is a mad place, somewhere I hope I will visit again.
