Projection; How Narcissists Tell on Themselves!

My new book on Amazon and Kindle; Out of the FOG Into the CLEAR, Journaling to Help You Heal from Toxic Relationships

Projection is a defensive mechanism whereby a person takes what’s going on inside of them, something uncomfortable, usually shameful, negative, unattractive, dishonest, or harmful, and projects it onto someone else. It’s the cheater who constantly badgers you about where you've been. The hateful, vengeful person who accuses you of vengefulness. The arrogant person who tells you you’re stuck up. The selfish person who says you’re so self-centered. The uncaring person who tells everyone how non-empathic you are. And the superficial person who points out your focus on superficial things. So often I will see an empathic client involved with a narcissist, turning themselves inside out trying to prove to the narc they are caring, empathic, trustworthy, unselfish, and not superficial. This plays right into the narc’s needs for constant attention, and feeding of their bottomless pit. Learn what to do instead!
If you have a question, please put it in the Comments Section below and I'lll add it to my list to answer in a future video.
Neither this nor any other channel is a replacement for having your own therapist.
Often I am asked if I can do individual sessions with viewers, and unfortunately due to time constraints and licensing regs, I can't help everyone who wants and needs a therapist of their own. Betterhelp offers a way to help you get affordable, professional, online therapy. BetterHelp can match you with a licensed therapist, who you can connect with by video conference, phone, text, or livechat. You'll be matched within 48 hours and if for any reason you'd like to switch counselors, you can do so completely free of charge right through the app. This is a worldwide service and financial aid is available.
This is an affiliate link in which I may receive compensation from Betterhelp. Please let me know how it goes if you use this service! Best to you all always, Shannon

I still catch myself trying to prove I'm trustworthy even after realizing it is unwinnable. And we're not even together anymore.

My narc ex gf went on a whole on smear campaign against me after I caught her sleeping with her daughters boyfriend. She accused me of being a predator, an impoverished person living in squalor, reached out to all of the people on my contacts list trying to turn them against me. All of this to keep me so wrapped up in chaos so I wouldn't find out that she had also stolen a large amount of money for my business. When I figured it out, she had told me I had a harem of women in my Facebook, stating that maybe one of them went through my home at night while I slept.. I just can't even wrap my head around how much projection could keep her from feeling guilt. It's mind boggling.

Narcissists seem to love nothing more than to call you a criminal if you get mad at them and show your anger as if this is the same as bullying.

[Welcome back. Your voice is important.]

This life lesson when learned comes with a price that most folks would rather not pay--and that's... the TRUTH. If a person accuses you of stealing, cheating, lying... for absolutely NO REASON (and that's an important caveat), then you can pretty much assume that they're the one who is stealing, cheating, lying--accusing you in a plot to throw you off the scent when your gut tells you otherwise, "S/he wouldn't do <blank>. S/h is always accusing me of that"

If it's an intimate relationship--it's time to get your ducks in a row. If it's in the workplace--document, document, document. Avoid offline conversations and provide summaries of conversations or anything that you suspect could go south. If they see that you're being hypervigilant they'll back down--or fire you (either is fine). I did both scenarios and saved me a lot of grief.

My narc always.wondered about the boyfriend he thought I had on the side. His reasoning was if I wasn't " getting any" from him, .I must be getting.it from.someone.else. It was maddening, if I was texting I would hear " how is your boyfriend, .does.he miss you?". If I was late coming home from work, I would be asked if I stopped by his house. It was crazy, becomes I never cheated. I am faithful.
Maybe the sex life took a dive because I was tired and working, and didn't like his demanding and accusatory tone. As far as I know he isn't cheating, but the projection I think I am getting is his low self esteem, and his worry, that he isn't good enough for me. If he keeps the distrust going, I may have to leave. I can't be in a relationship when someone thinks I'm dishonest.

Thank you for your short yet very informative and to the point video. I’m trying to find videos to share certain behaviors with my children, and this would be very helpful, but im trying to not have the label “narcissist” in there. I’m hoping to find more content where there is no label involved, so they can learn about it and recognize it. Without me saying “your father is a narcissist”.
Regardless, this is a great video and yes! Listen and learn, because they are giving you such valuable information about themselves.

Stepping away is very good advice. What would you say when narcissism seems to be a social phenomenon in your community? Narcissism seems to be getting worse in that fewer people are willing to call it out and have deluded themselves that narcissism victims and those with integrity are the narcissists, an accusation which demonstrates the narcissism of the crowd doing the accusing and false judging. It is surely abuse. Thank you for the video doctor.

Are you watching the Depp trial? If you are there is a live stream on YouTube with lawyers and other professionals commenting called Legal Bytes. They do not have a therapist and they need you. Contact Alyte who is running it I am sure she would love to have you on.

My wife would always tell me that her sister is having sex with men she meets on dating sites. Why did I need to know? She told me stories of people at work sleeping together also at that time it went in one ear and out the other thinking it was gossip. After seven years I discovered narcissism and she was textbook. Finally figured out I was the only one in town not having sex anymore😂
