Excellent video. What is the name of the program you use to monitor the DPF.

Yo, good video, thank you. I recently bought a BMW which was used for very short journeys for the majority of the past year. I know the previous owner very well, upon buying the car he mentioned it has a little which happens around 1000 revs from time to time. The owner noted a filter is the issue, he’s had it check twice and he’s been told to give it a good run out. I did 1000 miles in the past 2 weeks and noticed no difference. I then started looking into this filter issue and come across a number of videos including yours.

This evening I took the car out at 60 mph for 30 mins with revs no lower than 3000.
I think it’s solved the issue! Well I hope at least.

Fortunately I know about this issue now, and how to resolve it. I hit around 500-600 motorway miles a week for my job, so shouldn’t have an issue keeping it under control.

Thanks for the video!

This actually helped alot thanks for sharing. its weird to me the BMW does not have a friendly consumer interface in their cars to monitor this type of stuff like most other manufacturers have. My family's Ford and previous Ram diesels have always been easy to monitor, so having a BMW is definitely an experience.😂😅

thanks for the useful video. at just under 100k mi, my 535d has thrown egr codes and dpf codes. my first thought is that the dpf is clogged, since i've read and seen so much about this. i'm currently in the process of removal and will be doing a couple chemical baths; de-grease/de-soot, then de-ash. also, manifold, egr and port cleaning will be part of this effort as well. upon taking apart the intake system, i wasn't surprised to see a massive soot buildup in the manifold and egr, but it does make me wonder if my egr faults were preventing a re-gen. i've driven it 30k mi in 4 years, numerous long trips, but in those 4 years, i've only ever seen the re-gen light on once. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Very, very useful video, thank you.
I have one question - my g31 has faulty active grille flaps (they are open all the time) - I was told that it may prevent DPF cleaning process. Do you know if that is true? My car normally reaches operating temperature (about 95 °C or whatever it is) and there are no idrive error messages. There are, however, two error messages in diagnostics (DDE 32C300 - bottom radiator blind, plausability: control deviation; and DDE 279B00 - radiator shutter, activation: electrical fault). There are no other error messages.

So, can these errors prevent DPF cleaning? And would failed DPF cleaning produce any error codes, or there is no way of knowing if it works or not (except checking the debris level with this App)?

Thank you! This is the best explanation on BMW DPF cleaning I have found!

I know this is very subjective, but after how many short journeys - lets say like 2km the dpf soot level is high to require a DPF regeneration? If I will be making just short trips lets say 2km x 2 for 2 weeks. Then I have overally done around 56 km in really short journeys. Will the soot level be already high?
Is it enough to take it on the long journey every month (generally), when the mileage isn't very high? I have never owned a diesel engine car. Thanks for reply!

Great video very very have ordered the adaptor and I am planning to carry out this process this weekend.however, not sure why on the same video or same time you have done both, the natural regeneration and the forced one? Can you please clarify....do I need to do both? I have no idea what's the soot level as am still waiting for the adaptor. Thank for the useful tips and advices on the other videos

What program are you running to complete and monitor the soot levels?

Hi all got a 520d 2020. My oil level rose due to fuel being dumped in the oil resevoir caused by failed regens. I do taxis therefore the city driving is why i think the regens failed. Bmw drained my oil and now i monitor my dpf levels using beamerlink and when regen is due i do what this gentlemen on the video is doing. However, noticing the soot level is rising too quick after regens around 3 grams per day. My average mile till between regens in 200 miles or 350 km ( high city driving). Now i monitor my soot levels using beamer link but still wondering why my soot level still rise 3 grams per day?

Thanks for great video! I’m looking at an 2016 X5. If I get the Bimmer Tool, can I use it to check the vehicle I’m looking at? Might the dealer have issues with me doing this? What would I want to check? Thank you!!!
