BMW E90 Clogged DPF Cleaning DIY. E92 335d Blocked DPF Easy Repair (JLM DPF Cleaner + Oxalic Acid)

How to easily unblock your cars DPF. Car shown is a BmW 335d, but same process for pretty much any car with a DPF

Same process for many other BMW, E90/E60/318d/320d/325d/330d/335d/520d/525d/530d/535d etc

I cleaned a Peugeot DPF yesterday. I'd tried cleaning it on the car using a foam DPF cleaner, it would briefly work then warning light would come back on a few days later. Yesterday l removed the Dpf from the car, soaked in TFR to loosen the soot, back flushed with clean water until it ran clear. ( Not a great deal actually came out). I then soaked it in brick acid and again back flushed with water. Got absolutely loads of orange red ash out of it. Flushed and agitated until it ran clear. Blow out with compressed air and refitted. It's now like brand new again. 2 millibar at idle and 20 millibar at 3000rpm.
I believe the only way to get the ash out is to back flush it. The ash is too big to go through the filter.

Cleaner is great, we use the Fortis one at work and we have had great results with it, its not cheap but its cheaper than the alternatives.

My mate was going to try this on on his van .guy told him to use brick acid

Obv need to fix why it blocked in the first place otherwise it’ll just block again. Another thing to note is if the DPF is high up in the vehicle it is worth having the engine running as less risk of the fluid from the can back filling the engine - perhaps put only a little in before starting the engine. Brick acid is always a good Plan B if the traditional cleaning doesn’t work. Anyways people, keep those feet tapping…..

Not using proper oil for your engine, can built up ash inside DPF. Blocked DPF will lead to turbo problem. Also, just an advice for others. Do not push your diesel while the engine is cold and on the short journeys

A blocked dpf is a symptom, not the problem. Not fixing the cause and the blockage will come back.
