DIRECTV how do I program or make my old remote control useful with today’s TVs

How to program your old DIRECTV remote control to make the volume power button and inputs work for your new flatscreen TV I know in my household we’re always losing the remote so it’s great to have some extras on hand and just thought I would share this tip I’ve been doing DIRECTV for the past 20 years so just hack for your older first generations remote control
