2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Review

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid represents a significant evolution of the Corolla brand, which for over five decades was synonymous with economy sedans. This model is part of a diversified lineup that includes the standard Corolla sedan, the Corolla Cross, and the GR Corolla, each catering to different market segments. The Corolla Cross Hybrid, introduced in 2023, stands out as a top-tier option for those seeking an affordable, compact crossover with excellent fuel efficiency. This vehicle, particularly the XSE model, is distinct from the non-hybrid Corolla Cross, which is available in three different trims, indicating Toyota's approach to treating these as separate models. This diversification is part of Toyota's broader strategy, which includes eight different SUVs and crossovers, each offering a variety of powertrains and features, with the Corolla Cross Hybrid sharing some design elements with the Toyota RAV4.

Topgun vehicle #1. 💯

Currently the best selling smaller hybrid automobile in the United States. Quiet, rides well, incredible safety features, excellent handling, phenomenal fuel economy, well priced, peppy, great value for the money, fantastic exterior and well done interior. No wonder it’s #1 and far superior to any of the competitors.

Massive demand from the buying public (obviously) with long delivery times.

Highly recommended ✅

Toyota should also bring the Yaris Cross to USA too. That's the mini RAV4 in all angles

Mentions a Toyota Subscription for a quarter-second... Doesn't explain what features you have to keep paying to access long after you've bought the vehicle....?

Gotta love the corolla. seriously, I am not sure if it's the only one, but you really don't see a lot of car models that offer sedan, hatch back, and crossover/suv with or without hybrid.

Natalie, All the positive momentum the Cross Hybrid builds comes to a crushing halt when the dearth of rear leg room is evaluated. Unlike other examples (Corolla Touring Sports) where Toyota stretched the Corolla wheelbase to make it family friendly, we have do make do with a glaring shortcoming in the second row. This massive oversight becomes all the more glaring when we realize that for once, Toyota actually carved out generous headroom in the back and then forgot taller passengers generally bring their legs along for the ride. A lack of rear legroom also means insufficient space for today's rear-facing child seats when full-size adults occupy the front row. So many direct competitors did such a superior job in accommodating occupants that you have to wonder what Toyota was thinking and why we did not merit the same consideration our European cousins received. 🤔I will leave it to others to discuss the bizarre routing of the high voltage cable to the rear motor which robs the Hybrid Cross of a spare tire. What a pity, this efficient and powerful drivetrain deserved a better vehicle built around it. 🤨

The framework of the new/old suv is very unique & the color matches Toyota Corolla

For many decades Corolla offered, sedans, wagons, hatchbacks, and hasn't always just been a sedan.

Car Gurus one of my favorite websites for car shopping! Looking forward to my 2024 Corolla Cross XSE Hybrid shopping experience. Shh! Don't tell Hyundai, but after 5 Hyundai leases, I'm done with them and ready to join the Hybrid Force! For the price, this vehicle checks all my boxes. Now driving a 2022 Kona Limited and the new version looks like you're flying the Starship Enterprise but their ICE version ONLY produces 25 MPG, compared with 42 MPG for this SUV!! Toyota hybrids rank #1 in Consumers Report and I never heard of a Toyota engine catching fire, as with Hyundai engines. Footnote: Kia Niro is a Hybrid in same class (they also have an EV and Plug-in hybrid) -- but their top trim is over $37K.

Add the Kia Niro as a comparison, though not AWD, gets 50 mpg and just as roomy and cheaper.

How much does the electric hybrid battery cost to replace?

Thank you for the wonderful content and in depth analysis.
What would be your choice between Corolla Cross Hybrid 2025 vs Rav4 Hybrid 2025?
Considering Corolla Cross Hybrid may get mid cycle refresh in 2025 and Rav4 seems outdated and may not get next generation model until 2026?

This has the 5th Gen Hybrid system but it is still noisy. Production is supposed to double for North America in 2024.

"Inexpensive", rather than "cheap".

...the MPG numbers are total BS. 45/35/42 😂 what a joke

On my 3rd fill up. My combined was 48.9 mpg. 380 miles at 7.76 gallons.

I don't know who did the miles rating but they need to do it again.

In China, the GPF destroyed this car.

Over priced . . . wait a few months when the economy gives way and the price will come down. AWD is a waste unless you live out in the hills. A luke warm review. These go for $37k with top trim.

Wow what a subpar vehicle

It’s boring looking the interior is as bad as a cheap GM product, interior space is poor, It’s slow, doesn’t drive all that great, it’s noisy, rides like garbage, and it’s way overpriced

The competition is 💯 superior to this already ran vehicle. This isn’t even affordable considering markups abound
