And his name will be Emmanuel, not Jesus. And the context of the text has nothing to do with Jesus. It's saying that as a sign a child will be born and soon after his birth the two kings of king Ahaz's enemies will die, which happened roughly 4 years later. It's a time sensitive prophecy, it cannot be referring to Jesus. And it doesn't say a supernatural virgin birth, but instead a virgin will be empregnated and have a child, it wasn't going to describe us the sexual process of empregnation...

Also important to Note what ISAIAH 8:6 says, along with the meanings of all the children.

The original sign of ISAIAH 7:14-16, they all refused - ISAIAH 8:6 tells us they refused the waters of Shiloh (Messiah), therefore, if they accepted the sign, the waters of Shiloh, those kings Ahaz feared would have been destroyed before the child reached the age of 12 or 13, however, they refused the sign and instead, hired the King of Assyriah, so God instead brought in a child named *MAHER-SHALAL-HASH-BAZ* which means Quickly to the spoil/plunder and brought upon them the Rivers of destruction instead the waters of Shiloh that go softly. So now the prophesy of ISAIAH 7:14 was a future prophesy.

The prophesy now moves into the future promise of the Davidic King of ISAIAH 9:6-7 called Mighty God. If Ahaz trusted in God, the child born to the prophetess would have been called Immanuel, but he chose to trust in the King of Assyriah over God, so the child's name was now called *MAHER-SHALAL-HASH-BAZ* meaning soon destruction, because they refused the waters of Shiloh (ISAIAH 8:6). The apostles knew the prophesy very well. The child Immanuel is the Messiah - The waters of Shiloh - Ahaz and the people rejected him so they brought on their destruction - sound familiar?

 When you read ISAIAH 7 through ISAIAH 8 and pay attention to the names of the children, it's so obvious - why was it important to include Isaiah's son?

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name *Immanuel* .
*(GOD MANIFESTED IN FLESH - GOD WITH US)* - Ahaz and the Israelites rejected this sign, *IMMANUEL*

3 And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the Lord to me, Call his name *MAHER-SHALAL-HASH-BAZ* .
*(DESTRUCTION)* - Because they rejected Immanuel, destruction came instead.

*NOW PUT IT ALL TOGETHER*
1. Israel comes back from the 1st Exile - the remnant returned. *(SHEARJASHUB*)
2. They reject their Messiah who came in flesh. *(IMMANUEL)*
3. Rejection of their Messiah/Shiloh brought on their destruction. *(MAHER-SHALAL-HASH-BAZ)*

Get it now? YESHUAH was the Immanuel who was rejected.

*BUT NOW - It's all going to happen again, because again; 👇

1. The nation of Israel is back in their land.

2. If they trust in their Messiah, he will return and heal their land.

*Zechariah **12:10* - Messiah will return soon! Zechariah 13:7-9 & 14 will happen first and then they will call out to their Messiah.

I heard a lot of people says that Isaiah’s son Maher was the child Emmanuel. But I see him more as a “stand in” who fills the same roll, that Israel and Syria would be overthrown before he’s a certain age. But it seems Isaiah 9 says this child would be king, and I don’t think Isaiah expected his son to be king. Also when you compare Isaiah 6:11-13 to Isaiah 11:1 it seems the child is to appear just before Jerusalem’s 2nd destruction which we know was done by Rome.
