About this video:
In this video Yaro from Aviator Inspirations talks about the fear of turbulence. You always fear what you don't understand, and turbulence in flight is one of those fears. Turbulence on a plane can be stressful, especially experiencing turbulence in flight. So hopefully turbulence explained by pilot will reduce your fear of flying!

I hate turbulence because I don't like the feeling of the plane dipping. I'm picturing the plane dipping with no support beneath it & that freaks me out. I know that we have a higher chance of getting in a car accident than a plane crash but the comfort I get from a car is the car is on land. I won't be falling thousands of feet from the sky, regardless of what happens, plus I have more control.

My worst turbulence experience was during a night flight from Indiana to Washington state. There was rough turbulence maybe every 15-20 mins for at least an hour of the flight & I saw absolutely no lights outside the window. It felt like we were flying in a black hole or something. I drank an entire bottle of wine after the flight that night.

Thank you for that explanation but I feel it's hard to be reassured when turbulences are so intense. I experienced some that it was SO shaky that I was sure I was gonna die. For 20 mins straight al flight attendants were sitting with their seat belts on and the aircraft was just dropping. At some point I felt like motors were stopping, it was so scary

It would makes me feel more safe if the plane has a plan B / Plan C / plan D parachutes attached to it. After all we are in the air, dun wanna be dead for some stupid mistakes made by others

Turbulence is not the issue. We all know aircrafts can take it. It's more to do with how pilots are trained to deal with associated issues (like icing). If you look at the AF447 crash and the Air Asia one, those were not directly caused by turbulence but turbulence caused a chain of events that led to crashes. The Flydubai crash was also an indirect consequence of turbulence as well

Also the American Airlines flight that crashed after takeoff from JFK was indirectly caused by wake turbulence. In fact in that instance, the pilot did not know that they cannot apply so much rudder input to counteract this... as such the aircraft structure couldn't take it and it disintegrated (and this particular aircraft type has been flying for decades and there was still confusion between Airbus and AA regarding the training of how to counteract wake turbulence)

As airlines cut costs and also with lack of supply of pilots, airlines will likely cut training, and lower entry standards. That is likely to translate to more errors when a chain of events happen that involves turbulence

good info but background music choice is probably not best for those who need to feel informed and calm by turbulence lol

Yes turbulence not bring the plane down, but the effect after the turbulence is. Such as error instrument for old plane, stall, freezing pitot tube and so on..

Love flying but hate turbulence. I just hate the rocking and sudden drops, it doesn’t matter if pilots say that it’s like driving through a bumpy road, ugh no it’s not!

I get very tense during turbulence, I don’t have a fear the plane will fall or disintegrate, just hate those damn bumps, specially at night or bad weather.

It feels like your planes is going to crash although we know its not..to make it worse, seat belt ping make me build my anxiety. Hope I can overcome my fear of flying.. Because I know it just a product of my mind.

How about next time you make a video, cut the background music I could hardly hear you speaking.. The music is louder than your voice

Hi, my worst experiences on a plane have been two:
1. More than 10 years ago, flying from Mexico to Canada, our plane went through an 'air pocket'. That's the scariest feeling I've had on a plane. Since that time, it's really hard for me to relax and get some sleep on a plane, even in 14-hour flights. That happened unexpectedly feeling how the plane was falling (maybe it wasn't), then it stopped 'falling' went up again but its position didn't feel very straight. It was gaining altitude unevenly.
2. One year ago flying over the Andes mountains in Chile, the turbulence was very hard, it got really bumpy with long falls.

My question is, how often do the air pockets occur and what do pilots do to solve it?

Thank you!
I agree on what you've mentioned in your comments, the unknown is usually scary, during the past months I've been studying more about this topic, to be able to get some sleep on planes. 😬

I have my first flight from Dhaka to Perth (transit in Singapore) by Singapore Airlines. I am very nervous for crossing ocean for 5 hours.

I regularly fly from to the central part of Australia (desert) on a fokker 50, twin prop 50 seater, mostly its calm with a few bumps here and there, but on approach in the summertime it gets really rough! is this normal turbulence, and why is it so rough, also, is it a cause for concern or one of the turbulence types you explain here?
