Interesting. I think the important underlying message is that saving till you reach $10k shows you have the mindset to reach much higher levels. And that is what you need to do to eventually become financially well off.

Depends on how you got there and how difficult it was. 10k is a great emergency fund, but it won't last very long if you're living above your means.

The habits developed in striving towards the $10K (delayed gratification, earning and saving, financial goal setting, etc) are valuable and applicable to achieving other financial aims.

My financial milestone goal is 25k I've had 10k as an emergency fund forever and I know how fast it goes. Sucks I don't feel safe at all with that ammount anymore. during covid I went through that 10k in 6 weeks, it was one thing after another. I got it replenished but I definitely need to have more saved for sure.

Great Video, and 100% agree. Before my daughter was born, 10k was (and is) our emergency fund, and we keep another 5-10k (it varries) as our living & catch-all for life. Granted, we live in a low cost state (SC), but even with a modest income (45k per year), 10-20k as cushion allows us to live consumer debt free, gives us the freedom to occasionally vacation, allows us to attend out of town family functions (we even fly occasionally), go out to eat, & cover the rest of life's surprises without credit cards or other debt.

It’s the first step of a financial journey, not the end state. Keep pushing and learning and you’ll be rich. I don’t remember the $10, 000 milestone on my journey to financial independence. But it was only a few years later when I had $50, 000 in an index fund and the stock market hiccuped up 2% on a particularly good day. I remember the joy when I saw I made what would be a month’s pay from my old job sitting on my ass.
