The Fermi paradox wonders why we haven't found any creatures from space yet if the universe should be full of them. The Dark Forest theory suggests we should hope we never do. This idea proposes that there are many alien civilizations out there, but they stay quiet and paranoid. They assume that any other intelligent life is a potential threat and would destroy any emerging life that reveals itself. So, in this view, staying hidden is the safest bet for survival.
