Bromine is scary

Bromine is chemically very similar to chlorine, except chlorine is a gas and bromine is a liquid. It's one of the only elements that exists as a liquid at room temperature (the other is mercury), and it's also one of my favorite elements!

WARNING: Bromine is very toxic and corrosive, and is extremely dangerous if handled improperly.

He's been stuck in an endless loop of opening and sealing the Bromine for a year now.

I like how he introduced a chemical like his friends.

This is exactly how I wanted to be taught chemistry back in high school.

When my dad was around 20, he was driving a truck with a tank of bromine in it. Someone crashed into that truck and bromine gas was released from the tank. It destroyed his sense of smell. He is now 84 and still can't smell anything. It's dangerous stuff.

My teacher once accidentally dropped a bottle of bromine in class and our whole school got evacuated. Fun times.

Fun fact: Bromine was used during the American civil war in field hospitals to treat wounds after amputations to prevent gangrene, the use of bromine proved very succesful and was continued as a practice throughout the war.

This man legit just broke two test tubes just to pour bromine from one to the other. Respect.

-Breaks open a test tube of dangerous liquid
-Pours some out
-Seals the rest of the liquid away again
-Refuses to elaborate

Perfection.

Jesse: “Pineapple's good for you. It's got bromide.”
Walt: “Bromelain, but, close.”

You know it’s terrifying when he doesn’t drop it.

You know its a real danger when it has its own beaker and cardboard stand and can only be sealed with a glass ampule.

My chemistry teacher said, sliding open the fume cupboard:
"If you get it in your eyes it will blind you, if you breath it in it'll kill you, apart from that, it's completely harmless"

“Which is why I have it in a glass container” proceeds to let it out-

They didn't explain as to why it's so scary, let me put it like this. A single whiff of this stuff will kill someone.

Unfun fact: Victorian children were sometimes given their own personal salt cellar, which actually contains bromine salt. It acts like a mild sedative and was used to make the children behave better

Chemist: "This is, Bromine."
Me: "What's up, Bromine."
Bromine: "Sup, dude."
