“Hey, I don’t know who this random caller is, but I’ll still meet them at some undisclosed location late at night, and I think I’ll bring some friends into this dangerous situation as well”.

"My old phone of two years started ringing. I had to search in my closet for this old phone which was somehow still charged enough to receive a call and miraculously also still in service."

“I was home alone, by myself.”
Uh yeah, that’s what being home alone means.

My family got pranked all of the time in the early 1990's. A few times they asked for me and threatened my life, or called me a whore. These are great stories.

In the 90s my family would get profane calls from a prison. The prisoners would pick random numbers it seems demanding money I always wanted to be the one to answer to yell back at them and tell them off, but my parents wisely never let me. We changed numbers and it stopped. I wondered if there was anything more to it or if we really were just random victims of these bored criminals that the prison wasn't paying enough attention to.

My grandma told me about something that happened to her around 30 years ago. A friend of hers had died not long before. One night, grandma got a call, but when she picked it up, there was silence on the other end. She thought it might have been me, as I would have been around 5 or 6, easily tall enough to reach the phone in my parents' bedroom (it was on a nightstand). After a few minutes however, the dial tone started, as though grandma had rung someone. Then, she heard a voice on the other end. It was her friend's husband. She asked if he'd rung her, but he said "No, you've just rung me!". My grandparents got someone out to check the phone line the next day. No explanation was ever given. To this day, no one knows what happened that night.

So for the phone call where the guy overheard an alleged murder, there used to be these things called party lines. My mom told me when she was a kid back in the 70s, you could be talking with a neighbor on the phone, and if someone completely different picked up the phone, they could sometimes pick up on your conversations. It has something to do with a common line I believe. It's a possible explanation.

“I had no idea how this guy got all my personal information.” It’s called Facebook. Delete it.
