"Put his glasses back on. He can't see without his glasses. He was gonna be an acrobat!" That moment always shatters my heart whenever Vada says that line. Not only do you feel for the poor girl, but you can't believe that they actually killed off Macaulay Culkin in a family film.

My Girl doesn’t get anywhere near enough respect. It’s a phenomenal early 90s drama that understands both adult relationships and kid logic. For me, it’s Macauley Culkin’s best role. The casting overall is amazing and for her first starring role, Anna Chlumsky gives an amazing performance. I had a huge crush on her back then and to this day, she gives a believable performance. It’s one of those forgotten movies that was such a hit that it spawned a sequel 3 years later. I wish they made it a trilogy. The late 80s early 90s saw a lot of excellent, underappreciated movies. Probably because of their darker moments and that era is known today for light, goofy stuff.

It’s gonna hard for a movie to ever beat John Coffey’s execution because the build-up to it is so masterfully done, and it’s a film where there are no bad performances in it. Nearly 25 years on, and it still never leaves a dry eye in the house. Michael Clarke Duncan should have won the Oscar for this role.

Watchmojo - We’ll only be focusing on human deaths.

Also Watchmojo - Number 14 the terminator.

there are some heavy hitters on this list - but John's death at the end of Green Mile is so very sad and heartbreaking, knowing that he was innocent, that he was a true miracle and such a gentle soul. Watching it nowadays is so much harder after Michael Clark Duncan's untimely death.

The fact after every thing they went through, they still killed off John Coffey. Not only one of the saddest deaths in cinema, bit one of the saddest scenes in cinema

Anyone who isn't tearing up when John Coffey rides the lightning isn't human

The movie death that hurt me the most didn’t make your list. The younger brother, Danny, in American History X. I literally had to pull my car over on the way home from the theater because I was sobbing so hard. It was a phenomenal movie. Anytime anyone asks me about my favorite movies I always include it, but I can never watch it again myself.

I feel like Snape’s death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is way sadder when you realize how much Snape truly cared about Harry, Ron, and Hermione

"Let's do it for Johnny!" Both Dallas and Johnny's deaths broke me when I read the book, even more so in the film. They deserved so much better than their untimely deaths, at such young ages. 😭💔

I think instead of Jenny it should have been bubba. That scene always makes me cry 10x more than Jenny’s death

John Coffey's death truly saddened me. He was such a gentle giant, and so caring.

Leslie’s death in Bridge to Terabithia broke me. It still does. And since I read that book for the first time in the 70s and many times over since, I knew it was coming, but it still broke me.

Bridge to Terrabithia... destroyed me. I cried for 2 weeks and still can't think of it without choking up. Devastating

Before the world cried for Iron Man

We cried for Wolverine

Boys cried at Mufasa’s death, men cried at Iron Man’s death, but legends cried at John Coffey’s death

Not in the list, but Yondu Udonta's death still hurts, even to this day. MY GOSH, I miss him... 😢😢💔

I've not seen most of these movies but I think the death scene of John Coffey was spot-on for being #1. What's more tragic is the real-life death of Michael Clarke Duncan, may he R.I.P. :(

Neil Perry’s death hit me especially hard when I saw Dead Poet’s Society back in 1989. I also had a demanding father with unrealistic expectations and only provided love IF I met them. I would be lying if I didn’t think about doing the same thing that Neil did in the film.

Fortunately, I eventually was able to free myself from my bio family and create a family from people who love and accept me for who I am.
