This was my uncle's bomber. Samuel K Johnston was the ball turret gunner on No Excuse. He would survive the war as a POW and went on serving all the way through Korea and the Vietnam war (B29, 50, 36 and 52s). He spoke about WW2 sometimes but never that much. Later in life, he became very close friends with a Luftwaffe veteran who flew an FW190 and had American bomber kills to his credit. They would talk freely with each other about the war like a support group and Hans would help me in looking for work after I graduated high school.
