This is so true. There's a lot of things like Japanese gacha games that have huge potential with international fanbases, but the developers absolutely don't care, they only cater to the Japanese fanbase.

The last time Japan tried to expand outside of Japan it got out of hand

I saw a Japanese band opening on their first US tour the other month. They were so good and can't wait to see them again.

This is very true. As a J-Idol fan, the majority of them focus on the Japanese market only (why there’s so much region-locked stuff), I feel like if someone wanted to become an idol with more international reach they’d go to K-Pop (i.e. the Japanese members of K-Pop groups like Twice, etc.)

Capcom used to be like this for a long long time. But in recent years they've branched out a lot.

I feel like it’s because Japan has a large domestic market and it’s cost effective for them to just focus on domestic fans. and they don’t care outside of Japan.

I saw Hanabie and Baby Metal at LTL last year, and Hanabie was one of my favorite sets last year, I really would like to see more japanese musicians/bands in the U.S. especially Ado, I love her vocals

This is very much true (although they're slowly changing) you can still see full MV's of old songs that are just released a few years ago like Plastic Love (most songs are only short versions).

As an otome game player, this is so true. There are a lot, and i mean, A LOT of otome games with no english translation or localizations just because they don't care enough to make one eventho all of us are dying to play it.
For example tokimeki memorial girl's side we can have tmgs 2 and 3 english translation only from fan translation, meanwhile tmgs 4 is just nothing, no hope whatsoever 😢

Thats why they have crazy copyright restrictions with their media licenses 😭

Feeling that with the Ado world tour, the venues in America at least are limited it to extremely small places and didn’t come to many cities, I get time and everything but it was sponsored by Crunchyroll and in NY the venue only fits like a little over 1000 people and she has far too many fans here to give that amount of space 💀

thats so true... i envy kpop bands always having fanmeets and concerts for int fans when all i want is live japanese music

This is why K-pop is more global than J-pop. K-pop is so mainstream now whereas J-pop is a still fairly niche.

nah this applies to almost every industry in japan, the only outliers are like car manufacturers and sony, and i felt like they just gave up alot of potential money this way

I felt that when i was they have a very strong culture that is entirely theirs, and they don't take in much stuff from the outside as well

American and English youtubers are often the same though. They just reach internationally because English is the most spoken and understood second language world wide. I often see youtubers put little ín effort to choose brand deals that are usefull for Europeans for example. Non-English youtubers often purposely target internationally because they choose to talk English instead of their own language. That's deliberate

And that's why they come up with such interesting concept and ideas that make the content/product they make so attractive.
Pleasing everyone's taste is pleasing none's taste.

They don't also like to travel out of japan, i knew recently that just 20% of japanese people have passports
