Actually lots of cultures count by two when there are many to count. It’s just quicker. It’s just a smart way to count many items. North Americans, Chinese, Koreans, Indians, etc do it too. 😊

It's called counting by 2s! It's more easier to count by 2s more than 1s .In math we count by 2s for multiplication

Everytime someone learns one way of doing something the locals ditch that and do something completely new and we have to learn that on top of the 1000 other stuff

I mean we do that in English too depending on the context and the preference of the speaker, it's just faster and easier

The song at the beginning (poorly played on a record) is "Marcia Trionfale Dell' Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi

Same here😅
In India we don't say ek do teen char panch chhe shat aath no das😅
Instead of it we say

Japanese have actually 3 systems of "numbers"
1. Is original Japanese number names (only for 1 to 10. You can NOT complex numbers with those) that starts from ひ(1) also known for ひとつ、ひとり for all Japanese learners, ふ(2) etc. up to と(10). Some counters use full 1-10, some only 1-3, some none of those original names.
2. The "usual" number names. Everyone knows - いち、に、さん、よん etc. (4, 7, 9 have also second pronunciation).
3. An English adopted pronunciation of numbers, like ワン(1) and up to テン(10)。

And they also like to shorten all words up to one mora (sound), like ろく is full name of 6, but can be used as just ろ。

Like why Japanese, why :(

We actually do that in Germany very often. No wonder Japanese and German people always fit very well :D

It's funny, I heard this in an anime recently, and I was like, "Wait, what kind of counting is that?" and surprisingly, I found nothing about it until I randomly stumbled on your video here. It's a good thing my feed is filled with seemingly random videos about Japanese!

It's not very common in Brazil, but I learned to always count in 3s, it makes it much easier to count large quantities of things, depending on the quantity I can even count in 5s or 8s.
