Why Can't Japan Accept Mixed-Race?

What's it like to feel like a foreigner in a country you were born and raised in? Aju was born in Tokyo to a father from the Bahama's and a mother from Japan. She has spent almost all of her life in Japan and speaks native Japanese, but struggles to talk to other Japanese people. Why won't Japan accept mixed-race people?

No way!!! Is that Aju? One of the kindest Japanese woman I have met during my travels in Japan. I met her last year at Weerasakrack Muay Thai gym in Tokyo, September 2023 during our Muay Thai training session and she acted as a translator for me to a tradesperson working at the gym which then led onto having a really great unforgettable conversation with her before I had to dash to DisneySea. I was thinking about her before YouTube algorithm recommended me this videos and instantly recognised her on the thumbnail. If you're are reading this Aju, many greetings from your Australian friend, Z

How can ppl think she’s NOT Japanese??? She has the distinct mannerisms that only come from being born & raised in Japan & she’s adorable when she covers her smile with her hand. Classic Japanese habit. ❤😊

She looks so badass like she wouldn’t take shit from anyone but then when you see her talk and her actions she’s really shy, like on 6:04 when she’s blushing because they are clapping for her. She’s so precious! ❤️

I’m a man and the first thing that came to mind when I heard her say she’s never dated, was she needs to relocate. As beautiful as she is, she’s not benefiting by staying where she’s at. I hope that this girl has the ability to travel the world, so she can move past this stigma she’s stuck in. She’s so forgiving and understanding towards the constant harassment she’s endured, and clearly she’s adapted some good life skills that are influenced of decorum and huge respect towards others.

As anothe half Japanese raised in Japan, I never ever want to move back. It was hard watching this, but thank you for filming and being so vulnerable! Loved the video.

Greetings to Aju! I haven't been in Japan since 1983, but what caught me off guard is when I was in Tokyo (back then) and saw signs at the entrance of some clubs (or bars) that said "Japanese Only". I can't imagine what you went through being raised there, but I hope the day can come when we can focus on what we have in common than what makes us different. You're beautiful! Keep your head up and stay strong. Loved the video!

It's no different for us over here in Europe. I regularly get 'compliments' about how well I speak the native language, even though, like Aju, I was born and raised here. It's not a compliment, it's just another reminder of how you see me as different.

She broke my heart when she said she has never been in a relationship 😢 She is such a pretty girl with a great heart. Thank you for doing this interview and giving her a platform to express her feelings ❤

The young woman, who looks more Japanese than the other, is asked where she's from while the other is complimented on her ability to speak the Japanese language. Wow!

Young Japanese men are clearly insane! That's a very beautiful, intelligent and charming young woman.

The world has a problem of thinking their perception of the world is the only way the world works. We as humans would be so much better off being more humble and work on expecting the unexpected. We know so little yet think we know the world so when something or someone “different” comes around, it surprises us. When in reality, this is normal existence, we have just been small minded.

This young woman is so charming, smart, and beautiful! Watching this video I felt my muscles tighten as if I didn’t want to take up space in the world. Like I wanted to get out of the way. I’m not sure if that’s because she was feeling that way or I’m projecting how I may feel if I were in her situation. But I hope she gets an opportunity soon to fully be her incredible, intelligent, and beautiful self. I hope she has or finds a group of people who accept and embrace her and finds a place where she feels she belongs. Wherever that is, they will be lucky to have her!

Ok but she is stunning. The confidence, the attitude, the laugh and having the hate roll off her shoulders.
Literally a heart stopper for me

There seems to be a deep sadness in this beautiful girl. 🥺

Blasian mix is probably the most beautiful mix in the world, I’m honestly so baffled. And I struggle to get my head around how she is totally ignored on a relationship basis. I’m from a super diverse part of London; we have a huge Indian population, and it’s culturally normal to marry within your race and cast. But people will still have relationships and fall in love outside of that, even if they feel they couldn’t marry the person or take them home to meet their family.

It must be so hard to have to deal with that from everyone she meets, but she handles it so gracefully.
