I was playing middle school ball during the early/mid 90's. The Braves had the best pitching staff ive ever witnessed. Greg was an absolute SURGEON.

Hey coach. Here's some quick random info from a fan. I'm 37 yrs old. From New Jersey. Born and raised. I pitched in high school. I was kinda nice.
I was a nasty lefty. Could've went to Rutgers if I didn't get in trouble...
My point is .... every single night... Me and my 11 year old son watch every one of your videos. We discuss your videos while we walk to the baseball field from our apartment. Not many good coaches around anymore. My son loves your videos. Thanks from New Jersey

Grew up a huge braves fan as a kid in Savannah ga. Maddox will always be my favorite. He can’t be replicated

Braves fan here so glad I got to see the BRAVES in their dominant run with Maddox Smoltz and Glavine, so fun to watch.

Coach, I used to throw the 2 seamer the exact same way you described as Maddox did(college pitching coach taught me). Only thing I can add is that with my thumb I tried to pull the ball to create more movement. As a lefty I had natural movement but by pulling that bottom seam I got a lot more down and in movement to lefty batters and a lot of induced ground balls from right handed batters. Just wanted to add some info for others to try.

What always amazed me about Maddux was his location/accuracy with that much movement. He had that disgusting, late movement, and it’s to the catcher’s mitt. It looks like it’s going to hit a LH batter, and the last ten feet, it snaps down and left-to-right (from a pitcher’s perspective), and lands perfectly in the webbing of the catchers mitt. Over and over again.

Repeatable consistent pitches. Excellent advice. If you do that you can make the all important "small adjustments" my kid and I would talk about while we did the long weeks and months of preseason warm-up.

Great video! I loved watching Maddux pitch! My son is 13 and just played his last year of little league and small field. He's moving up to middle school big field and 60'6" mound. He's very tall for his age (5'11" and still growing!) and has always been a dominant pitcher with his fastball. He can locate it well and he throws hard. As a result, he hasn't had to throw much off speed stuff or breaking ball. Do you have any tips on what we should be working on over the winter to prepare him for the longer distance, and what breaking pitches he should be working on? Those middle school batters will hit a 70mph fastball a lot easier from 60 feet than they did last season at 46!

Hey coach John can you please do a video on Pedro Martinez's 12-6 Curve ball. I personally like it but I can never get the same type of movement that Pedro had.
