When it cuts to Luke, the hood makes him reminiscent of the Emperor.

I love how it blinks green then red, then back to green again before he closes it.

It should have been left in, since it would have been a much stronger and more solid canonical basis for the much later galaxy-spanning jedi psychic calls we got to see.

Yes! Vader and Luke’s connection would have been far greater

Luke- Hello, this is Luke Skywalker. I'm not connected to the force right now, but if you leave a message, I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

It was taken out so that would be more of a surprise when he lightsaber the new green lightsaber. As far as everyone knew, Luke lost his lightsaber at the end of Empire. There's nothing that happens to indicate he's got a new one until R2D2 throws it to him. So for him to ignite a brand new one - with a never before seen green blade! - was a big moment. I can see why they chose not to include this.

Vader sounds more like a ghost trying to spook someone here.

Nope. In 1983, seeing the lightsaber for the very first time on Jabba's skiff made us all wet our pants. If we saw the saber and the fact it was green near the beginning, the skiff/barge scene would have left us dry as a desert.

It was right to cut it. Otherwise, his entrance when he appears would have been lessened, as well as the ignition on the skiff.

I remember practically jumping out of my seat in amazement back in 1983 when his lightsaber ignited and it was friggin' green!

Exactly how would it change the movie? It's not like it was the first time ol' Annie asked his kid to. Join the darkside, and we Were aware of the new blade. The second he weilded it.. This would just be repetitive filler. With Vader as always going "something, something, something Dark side.."

They should not have revealed the lightsaber color and left it ambiguous until later, so you would think Luke was being swayed to the dark side

Did you peep the red dot before it went green

In a word, yes. I remember seeing the movie at its local premiere, and upon seeing his new lightsaber for the first time, I thought, "Where the hell did he get THAT!". This would have helped introduce the notion of Jedi warriors building their own lightsabers, which at the time was a new concept for the audience to grasp.

Also covered in legends. Been a million years since i read it, but i believe it was the book "Shadows of the Empire". Luke traveled to Tatooine to Obi-Wans home and found intrusctions, materials and a crystal forge to build his new weapon. The book was set between Episodes 5&6.

I’m glad they took this is out, it feels like a early 00s Burger King commercial.
