I always felt the original kiss in the film was less romantically oriented towards Luke and more in spite of Han's cocky attitude. Sure, she had feelings for Luke, but obviously did the quick kiss to piss Han off. 

This scene just makes it all way too awkward.

i don't find this weird at all think about it. luke has no idea leia is his sis. but they both have the force right. so it connected them, they felt a connection. the force dosent answer your questions it just guides you so they felt a bond through the force and not knowing they were siblings just became sort of infatuated with each other.

luke is such a sweetheart, all shy and hesitant and afraid to admit his feelings. i wish they hadn't made leia his sister so they could have ended up together.

I would've liked this scene a lot more.. If they had kept it then Luke wouldn't have been Leia's brother in ROTJ. And no, the kiss in the final edit was just to make Han jealous. Even Luke knew that by the way he reacted to it, rubbing it in his face.

I guess no one here realizes that Luke and Leia becoming a couple was the original plan. Lucas made up the sister contrivance for ROTJ just to avoid any kind of intelligent resolution to a love triangle. Plus in the three years between the movies, Harrison Ford became a star with Raiders and so he had to end up with the girl in ROTJ. The interrupted kiss with Luke and Leia was in the first Empire trailer, and several "lovey" photo sessions with Hamill and Fisher were taken for the first film, most never released to the public. To anyone who was there as the original trilogy was released, it's not the kisses that are problematic, it's the cop-out sister thing.
