It might not be well know amongst evangelion fans, but Hideaki Anno originally planned for Shinji to grow up into becoming one of the leading figures in the New Jersey Italian Mafia, adopting the moniker "Shinji Soprano", after which he planned to produce a sequel series called Neon Gabbagool Evangelion: the end of Chrissy's dwindling sobriety. Unfortunately for him David Chase stole his idea, and sold it to HBO as "The Sopranos". "The Sopranos" went to air for six seasons with a total of 86 episodes, and was one of the most wildly acclaimed shows in the history of American television. Unfortunately for Anno he never saw any credit or monetary compensation for his creation.
