I know I'm a little late but do NOT watch the final two episodes after End of Eva, watch them before. They may or may not take place during End of Eva but should be watched before, not after. Eva is best consumed in the order it came out in. Also the manga isn't confusing. It's an alternate take on the story (made after the anime) that's not too hard to follow. Honestly Eva as a whole is easy to follow, people just overthink it. Also to the people saying the Rebuilds don't matter, they are wrong. The Rebuilds do matter, a lot. Watch them after End of Eva.

It’s worth noting that Evangelion is an extremely unusual and atypical Japanese anime series in that the anime was actually produced BEFORE the manga!

Probably something like 97% of all Japanese anime is based on an already existing manga - then the existing manga panels are used as storyboards and for art templates, and of course all the plot and dialogue is right there as well.

Evangelion, on the other hand, was actually produced as an anime first and then a manga based on that anime was produced afterward. It almost NEVER happens that way.

I finished watching Evangelion 1 month ago + the 2 movies ( Death true 2 and The End Of Evangelion) and now I‘m getting forward to the rebuild movies that I‘m probably going to watch with my aunt because she also likes Evangelion and just anime in general

Really wish I ran into this about a week ago. Found out that there was a showing of The End of evangelion at the movies about 2 days before, So I preordered my ticket and binged everything up-to (1-26, Recap). I can tell you that I was sitting in the theatre another kind of fucked through that movie.
