Not sure if anyone has asked this but does the direction of the blue rubber gasket matter whether that larger diameter is facing towards or away from the clamp? I assume it ends up flattening out as the clamp tightens over it anyways.

Why do some pipes have a lip that holds the nut, and some rely on those rubber gasket things? The rubber gasket things are not holding my pipe, it keeps falling right out when I tighten the nut

My new sink tail piece isn't reaching to the ptrap what should I do now? The length is fine but it's like 1/2 and inch off from the side.
