How Much Time Off Running Should I Take After a Season | #AskNick

Sometimes, RESTING IS TRAINING! Seriously. If you can't teach yourself to enjoy a little time off you're going to burn out quickly. 1-4 weeks of rest between seasons should do it. I found that 14 days was usually the ideal amount of "active recovery" for me.

Thank you for watching this video. My favorite days are those that stimulate me physically and mentally. Athletics keeps my body fit, entrepreneurial business keeps my mind fit. Welcome to the life of the ATHLETEPRENEUR!

Trust this man, I used to take my breaks for granted and I burned out like a candlestick. Worst feeling ever!

Sometimes it's just nice to get outside and feel ALIVE more than anything. I'm currently taking my break before XC starts, and I've felt so liberated by evening bike rides till the sun goes down, swimming, and basically spend time outside solely to enjoy nature. It helps me to keep searching for perfect moments in time.

Thank you for this, I just came back from a 3 week break after my track season ended and now I’m preparing for cross country. I was biking consistently and doing core during the break but I still feel pretty out of it coming back 😂 Nice to have your reassurance that coming back from a break feeling weak isn’t a bad thing!

I literally just got done with my season, and I was telling myself, "man I dont want to stop training, I really want to win state next year" and then you uploaded your video so I guess I'll take a week off! I wasnt sure if taking time off was a good idea, but now I do 🤩

My last off season (September) I took 4 weeks off, probably took me about 4-8 weeks of gradually increased mileage to feel fairly fit again. Like you initially I was glad to just break the constant running cycle but towards the end just wanted to get going again.

As a 800/1500 athlete in the UK I always find it weird when US athletes talk about "Summer XC training" and the track season ending in May. That's when the weather becomes decent here and we get going until August or even September!

Thank you so much Nick for all you do. You inspired me towards the end of my season when I really didn’t have much left and I managed to finally break 2 in the 800! I think I can safely attribute this to you and your tips (especially the video on the lean as it was only by .06 seconds). Again thank you so much and continue making amazing content!

I wanted to run club track over the summer. I don’t wanna take too long of a break so I guess I’ll go with the 7 day break you mentioned. I need to get faster but my body really needs rest

Hey Nick, appreciate you taking the time to answer questions from fans!

For three season athletes (XC, indoor, outdoor), would you recommend taking a break after each season or just once a year?

I take a month off each year! Totally worth it for the long run
