Nice to hear a pyschiatrist acknowledge that some patients with bipolar disorder can manage their condition without medication! For many, medication is important, but not everyone.

Occupational therapists (OTs) are also important to mention—they provide valuable support to many folks whose mental health struggles cause difficulties in performing daily activities (e.g., attending to personal hygiene). OTs are practical-minded clinicians who are interested in how your mental health impacts daily function, and use assessment and treatment to help you get back to doing what you want and need to do.

Ahh I ended up finding my current therapist on Therapy Panda and loved the experience. They actually let you add filters and see the therapist's availability, super easy

From this Therapist’s POV, the MOST important thing is the therapeutic relationship. Plus, we all have different levels of additional training. I am trained in EMDR (on my way to certification) and after the EMDR certification, I may get the CEDS (Eating Disorder Specialist). We all have a variety of modalities, ie CBT, DBT, ACT, Psychodynamic, Solution Focused, etc, so it will depend on what the client is looking for in a Therapist.

Thank you, Kyle. Thank you, Dr. Dom. Convo delineated the specialties well. I knew the differences but you fleshed it out really well. I appreciate that you didn’t poo-poo on any formal training. Dr. Dom, the role that you play in peoples’ lives is positively impactful. [now those “Life Coaches” is another story. Scary ].Thanks for this video.

That was a great explanation of the different kind of therapeutic providers, but I was looking forward to hearing more about how to find a therapist and I didn't feel like that got answered very well in this video. A little disappointed in that, but this is still great content.

I'd love to see this topic be done again soon. Perhaps with more of an emphasis on the perspectives that each school of thought prescribes to. In my experience that's what the biggest differentiator is. For example, social workers focus on the system and environment that the client lives in.

One difference between psychologists and social workers you didn't mention was that a psychologist will generally work with individuals. Social workers will work with relationships either in couples or families. Any psychological change made within an individual will impact their closest relationships, and without collaboration, often will meet with resistance. Working relationally allows the individual to be seen and understood in their immediate context, not just in the therapy room. I think " behavioural health" ( which is still called "mental health" in Australia) should make a strong stand for couple and family therapies as a better way to conduct therapy most of the time.

I did four years of undergraduate, two years of master's degree, and five years of doctorate. So it took me 7 years after undergrad

Psychologists tend to have more training in research and assessments in addition to psychotherapy training...that's the difference.

Would love to talk about 'Eupathy'. Eupathy provides affordable professional support from licensed therapists to people suffering from anxiety, depression, stress and health issues.

Differences....you forgot to mention one costs double even with insurance ... unless you are one of those free countries.. I mean free "health care countries" most simply can not afford it, that is why they stick with a primary care .. sad but true...

3:25 This is interesting cause in Canada, you must have a bachelors in psychology to apply for a clinical psych program (of course there are exceptions, but even in exceptions the expectations are you have most of the pre-req in psychology). You then gotta do masters and a PhD, a total of 6 years after your bachelors. In the video he says a clinical psych only needs a 4 year degree after their bachelors? Im assuming this is for PsyD programs. In Canada, while there are PsyD programs out there, its incredibly less common to see a PsyD clinician vs a PhD clinician. Is this the same in the states?

You mention this is a series and talk about the “next video”, but the appropriate video won’t play “next” based on YouTube auto play. So that only applies if the video is in a playlist. I imagine it IS in a playlist, but I found this video on its own and hoped to locate that playlist as I absolutely want to watch the whole series. Unfortunately there’s no link in the description so I would have to begin searching for the playlist through the tremendous amount of great content on your channel. That’s frustrating since I’m already on the first video.

Could you put a link to the playlist in the description?
