I swear to God I have poured through HOURS of mewing content looking for a simple "how to" and I finally found "hold your tongue against the roof of your mouth like you're making a continuous 'N' sound." Why can't all these 20 minute "tongue posture" videos just say that. WIL sent me here and he literally didn't mention "make N sound" once in 15 minutes.

I’m trying this. I’m finding it fairly easy. I’m trying not to break the position while swallowing which I think I’ve figured out. I enjoyed clicking my tongue as a kid, which requires you to hold the back of the tongue up while making the clicking sound so that posterior part of my tongue seems strong.

Never knew this was something people failed at but apparently there are a lot of people who fail at it.

I have tongue thrust. Apparently, when I swallow, my tongue pushes forward against my teeth, hence the reason why I needed braces to correct the spaces. It's very difficult to keep my tongue against the roof of my mouth.

I needed my tongue clipped as a kid but never had it done whilst it had originally affected my speech there isn’t really any audible issue whatsoever
My tongue doesn’t sit as comfortably as everyone else’s in my mouth it’s a little squashed in there
Causes difficulty only when I get sick with viral things like inflammation in my throat and epiglottis etc

However there was also a jaw issue and because of the way my tongue sat in my mouth it actually prevented me ever having to need surgery in my jaw due to the position of my tongue meaning it prevented me developing a receding jawline
And I’m so glad that’s how it worked out lol
Whilst I’d have loved surgery younger I feel if it was to be done now it would make me look super strange however goes to show you how important the tongues position is in ways we probably never thought about

People who have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which IS genetic, often have such a high palate that they can't rest the tongue on the roof of the mouth. I have EDS with hypermobility. Many medical professionals know little to nothing about EDS. I can't have any of the painkillers ending in 'caine either. Lidocaine, novacaine etc. My body doesn't metabolize it right. EDS is a genetic collagen defect and can effect any part of the body. If your palate is really high, look up Ehlers Danlos or other connective tissue diseases/disorders.

I used to open my mouth without knowing and the dentist made me glue stickers at the tv (it was the 90's) which showed an open mouth with a red risk (like the prohibited signs at the streets). But then I would rest my tongue right after my upper teeth and it pushed my upper teeth upfront. When my dentist said it I was so afraid to keep pushing my teeth (I was 10, I though it would keep pushing and be 90 degrees from my face) so I trained to rest it on the top of my mouth not touching my teeth.
Today I don't even know how to rest my tongue other way.

Why are people saying they can’t do this; because of an overbite?

My tongue is bulky and big. It pushes against the sides of my teeth. Is this a problem for posture?

You know does this help attain a better profile? I have naturally straight teeth and I think part of the reason is because I already keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth I just swallow incorrectly.

Dr. John Mew,

Should only the tip of the tongue be touching the spot behind the top teeth, or should the entire surface of the tongue be pressed onto the entire surface of the roof of the mouth? Thanks in advance.

Wait most people say it should be away from upper teeth but he says it should slightly touch the upper teeth too. Ima go with what he says

Should I have my upper and lower teeth touching as well when I put my tongue to my palate? Should I pull the tongue back some into my mouth so that the tip is not pushing into the back of the front teeth?

Thanks.
