Calcium is essential in our bodies as it forms the basic building blocks on which our entire body rests- our bones. Apart from this, this nutrient is essential for our muscles, heart, teeth and nerves. In most cases, one may not even experience symptoms that indicate low calcium levels in their body. These signs or symptoms can be mild to severe, depending on the extent and duration of time you’ve been experiencing it. The condition of Vitamin D deficiency is called hypocalcemia and your healthcare provider will be able to check your calcium levels by performing a blood test. Signs like muscle cramps, spasms, and fatigue should not be ignored. Also be mindful of numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, and decay of weakness in bones and teeth. Uncovering the underlying causes of deficiency is essential to identify the proper course of treatment.
With this video we aim to spread awareness about vitamin D deficiency, so that you don’t waste time suffering its consequences. Thanks for the information. I never knew it caused numbness and tingling in the hands, which I had a few days ago.. I just figured out I was low in calcium a few days ago when my back started hurting in an area that was injured decades ago. When I get low in calcium, my back starts hurting, and once I start taking calcium the pain goes away. I had back pain, numbness and tingling, joint pain, and a real high blood pressure. Calcium deficiency must also cause high blood pressure? My calcium and other deficiencies were most likely caused by drinking beer, which I just quit after this calcium deficiency. I read where alcohol strips the body of calcium, magnesium and other things.

Mine's not severe yet, but I've been fasting for about a month and started feeling all over joint pain today. Calcium supplement should be arriving on Wednesday and in the meantime, I'm taking TUMS to tide me over cause it's a calcium source and it's safe to take during a fast. But yeah, I have the feeling that this joint pain similar to arthritis has to do with the fact that it's taking calcium from my bones right now to keep my nerves, muscles, and heart functioning.

I really felt bad before I took calcium tablets and a bit stupid. Simple sums seemed like a mammoth task.

I used to be a crackhead so it's possible that sucked all the calcium out I guess?

Dangerously low calcium level?
Severe hypocalcemia, defined by a serum calcium <1.9 mmol/L (7.6 mg/dL), is often considered an emergency because of a potential risk of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias or seizures.

What depletes calcium?
Eating foods that have a lot of salt (sodium) causes your body to lose calcium and can lead to bone loss. Try to limit the amount of processed foods, canned foods and salt added to the foods you eat each day. To learn if a food is high in sodium, look at the Nutrition Facts label.

What stops the body from absorbing calcium?
Many factors, including age, disease states, and medications, can affect calcium absorption. Carbohydrates may enhance calcium absorption while coffee and cigarette smoke may impede it. The best way to get calcium is through food. Many foods are fortified with calcium.

How can I raise my calcium level quickly?
Good sources of calcium include dairy foods like milk, yoghurt and cheese, calcium fortified foods (such as soy products) and, to a lesser degree, some leafy green vegetables and nuts and seeds. If you don't have enough calcium in your diet, you may be at increased risk of developing osteoporosis.

How long does it take to replenish calcium deficiency?
A few weeks of adequate calcium intake should be enough to boost your levels, but again, another blood test is the only way to know for sure.
