I’ve noticed that apologists arguing that morality comes from god have something in common - a rigidity in their conception of morality. They seem unable or unwilling to see moral codes in other species.

Basically it's like this. We have no obligation to be moral, other than, we all decided over the course of human existence that it would be better for everyone if we did have some morals. This is where right and wrong comes from. A series of rules we all agreed upon.

You don't need god to be a good person, if you're only being good to others because you fear to burn in hell in eternity, that doesn't make you a good person. It just makes you fearful and act in consequence. It's like holding a gun to a murderer's head, he still has hideous ideas and one day he might still slip even with that gun stuck to his head. In other words, if you're a bad person, you're a bad person no matter what. Some people are just murderers, thieves, it's in their veines, they're genetically predisposed for that and no amount of good will will change that fact. God doesn't bring any solution to the equation, you're not good simply because you believe in god, and you only behave if you want to.

I love this argument. They are basically saying the only thing stopping them from being truly scumming and doing what they want is space Daddy. If you need an invisible beings treat of hell to be good, you are not good.
