CHEAP Sailboat to live on in the Bahamas! Ep 292 - Lady K Sailing

Is this the pefect cheap sailboat to live on in the Bahamas? Heavy enough to cross the gulf stream, big enough to live on, small enough to sail solo, and cheap enough to afford. The Beneteau Oceanis 370 is an excellent choice for a Bahamas trip from Florida in 2024. And this cruising sailboat is for sale right now for $50,000.

It would be nice to see you do every month or so a ‘ state of the market’
episode.

The downside of watching your channel is that I get to see other boats that I want. I am happy with what I have. I am happy with what I have. lol

I just bought my first sail boat today at age 55. I spent $1200 on a 1982 19’ Starwind on a magic tilt trailer. I can’t wait to get out there! Thanks for the inspiration Lady K!!

Currently I own a 90s Beneteau and would concur that the furling main can and has been a pain getting jammed a number of times. A new sail did help a lot and keeping the inhaul as tight as possible is a key.

Would like to see you feature a 30' or up, trimaran once in awhile.

It’s crazy how slightly old boats, look so old. It’s the equivalent to my grandpas 1930s cabin in the interior.

Here’s what I think… when I’m ready to switch from flying to sailing I’d like you to skip uploading these “great buy boat” videos to YouTube and just send them directly to me, and me alone. 😉

Just bought a 1993 30’ Catalina in Salem Massachusetts. Not heading south this year but next year me and the dog are taking her on an adventure! Until then I’ll use the remainder of this season and next to get familiar and get it ready to cruise.

Buying the(a) Boat isn't the issue, finding a place to tie it up that won't cost an ARM & LEG is impossible South of Palm Beach! ☹

Two quick comments: for those planning to stay at Norman’s Cay marina in the Bahamas (undeniably gorgeous), the nightly cost is around US$370. For an in mast furler the best way to avoid snagging of the main sail is to drop the boom topping lift to ensure that the main sail is in tension. This might mean that the bimini has to be folded away during the furling of the main sail.

pretty sure this 370 is already under contract because I have been looking at it for a month or two

Tim, this is a lovely boat, but how about boats already in the Bahamas? Being from AU, my is spent in SEA, not really a "hop". Often I see various boats "stuck" in Philippines at 'bargain' prices. Labour to fix them up is very cheap vs AU & these boats tend to be swapped between expats. Cheers. ⚓🇦🇺

Perfect for coastal cruising, Bahamas, Virgin Islands and the entire Caribbean. However I wouldn't take it on the open ocean.

Hi Tim, nice boat and not a bad price, but I’m a little surprised you wouldn’t allow $$ to change the rigging. I’m assuming twin spreader mast would be a considerable cost in a year or so. I’m baulking at a yacht in Oz for the same reason, it’s a little on the expensive side but it’s rig is 2015 and with rig replacement cost factored in, it’s over the top.
Enjoying the channel and always envious of your selection of yachts to choose from in the US. 👍

Looks cool and a nice review . I’m looking for something to sail around south east Asia . I guess it would be a stretch to get it over here

you've done steel, aluminum etc. I don't think you've done a primer on wood boats. You know, the ones with canvas sheets and a forked boom etc. Maybe wood is the wrong term, but you know what I mean classical type old school boats.

I am about to re-rig a 50ft sailboat i bought in the Caribbean. I was really tleaning towards a furling main.
I know I will be sailing shorthanded and at times possibly solo.
Why are you so against them?
Could you do a video on Furling mains Vs Lazyjacks.
Thanks in advance.
