Many resources will tell you the best way to open a closed guard is to stand up, and naturally us closed guard players have to learn how to deal with people who stand up inside our guards.

I have done over 50 seminars over 15 years around the world with phenomenal black belts, but I have never been more impressed and blown away by Profesor' Jean Jacques explanation and understanding of jiujitsu. To this day. Muito obrigado Profesor. May you have another 50 years of teaching everbody.

How does one practice 4 years of bjj without having ever seen this before? I should have been taught this on my second week! Thank you!

ROFL oh my goodness Jean Jacques, i love this. i have been doing this almost instinctually for several months now. whenever someone tries to getup in my guard, i either scooch myself backwards and try to climb bit higher, and/or i just get my legs in between the gap beneath their thighs and try to sweep them. I like the details of the sweep JJM shows. JJM is one of da best ever!

These details are so amazing. It really infuriates me how so many teachers don't take the time to go over such useful and important details. My instructor never even taught where to insert your knee when hip escaping from side control. I always got stuffed by my opponent's knee. Never taught high legging over for guard retention either. It's so frustrating that I have to dig so deep just for effective fundamentals!

That was great and perfect timing for me as well, as we were escaping/holding closed guard yesterday. Thank you!

These are great vidoes. Short and simple even though everyone involved are higher belts i feel like its so basic and applicable to my game as a white belt. Basics and attention to details 👏
