Gases are easiest to compress, solids most difficult | Compressibility | Chemistry

This demonstration uses some common objects to illustrate a simple, but important point. Squeezing a piece of chalk or block of wood does not alter its size or shape appreciably. Compressing water in a syringe reduces its volume very little, but enough to get visual confirmation. However air in a syringe compresses significantly more than water. Gas, liquid and solid are compressible in increasing order of difficulty, with gases being the easiest to compress and solids being the most difficult. This is because the intermolecular distance between gas molecules is large, creating small intermolecular forces while intermolecular distance between solids is small, creating large intermolecular forces.

Very good video. Thank you. What would be the pressure in pascals where the high and low temperatures for the Z to equal 1 for CO2 be? And what would it be for air?

Does compressing the water a little heat it up turning some of it into vapor?

Water has the lowest intermolecular distance! Lower than that of a solid

What would happen if I took a 10000lbs hydraulic press and forced the water to compress?

if you can compress it then it can be compressed, else its not ? if somebody ask you if metal can be melted or not, are u going to use a lighter than say no ?
