I will always support Peter and MJ’s relationship. The fact that they keep messing with their relationship makes me less inclined to ever pick up Spiderman again.

No joke--as soon as I saw the new status quo for Mary Jane in the first issue of the new series, I dropped it as fast as I started it. And I have collected Spider-Man religiously since 1987.

Regarding not giving fans what they want, a quote from Georg C. Lichtenberg comes to mind: "To do just the opposite is also a form of imitation."

Marvel: No one wants Peter and MJ together.

The public: Isn't it great to see Tom Holland and Zendaya together?

I miss Peter Parker and Mary Jane being a married couple because damn it Peter Parker and Mary Jane are great couple and tons of fun.

Marvel and Disney are a match made in heaven because both entities have lost sight of who their fans are and neither can ever admit to making a mistake.

Spider-Man has been a fundamentally broken character in the comics since One More Day and arguably even since the Clone Saga. The character has firmly jumped the shark due to retcons and editorial stupidity.

I was around 10 years old when One More Day came out and have not enjoyed many Spider-Man comics since because the characters natural progression was broken. So if I ever feel like reading about the character I usually stick with what came before.

I actually thought it was cool that Spider-Man was older in the comics and younger in the media adaptations. But I guess that’s not what marvel wanted lol

The mismanagement of Spider-Man over the last 15-20 years is somewhat amazing. It's literally their most singularly powerful brand and they let it languish in mediocrity for a decade certain writer, and after one run that wasn't spectacular but will be fondly remembered for how much it fixed, they immediately sink all the goodwill they earned by putting this Wells run. I was hesistant before but man I didn't expect them to screw it up this badly.

The 616 Peter Parker isn’t Peter Parker I call him Archie Parker. Who’s Archie Parker you ask well simple he’s Single dealing with personal problems is it married and the marvel editors just do whatever he wants with them.

Thank you Perch for all you're videos, analysis, and honest opinions,
I dropped Spider-man from my pull list after second issue of Wells awful story. I’m 42 and have loved Spider-man since high school being able to connect with a geeky, science nerd that can get the girl but I can’t stand this joyless comic. Why would any writer want the reader to see Peter being consistently tortured when seeing his ex day in and day out?
If they don’t want the marriage fine but then stop using MJ to simply enrage fans thinking they’ll restore the marriage.

I’m sure if they want to show their hatred for the fans they’d have Black Cat tell Peter, “Face it, tiger… you just hit the jackpot!.” The anniversary special was also an overpriced waste and I'm glad I didn't pick it up.
If the marriage was bad enough Quesada punk'd out and used Mephisto to save 100+ decrepit Aunt May. I don’t know where this story is heading and sorry to say I don’t care.
Marvel isn’t getting my money for this garbage.
Keep up with your videos, Your Awesome!

I've never understood why lgbtq people want Peter Parker to be bi, when it's so clearly obvious to rename him Spider-Pan. He swings in omni-directional ways, after all. Multiple different soap romance storylines, multiple different ways for them to break-up/get back together... and get this... multiple One More Day's.

If Marvel are so adamant on Peter & MJ not being a thing anymore, then get MJ out of ASM.

They won't, because they know she's a fan favorite and people want to see her with Peter, so they have to come up with bs reasons for her to be in the main title without actually being with the title character.

I would say baiting the reunion for well over a year probably sold a lot of Nick Spencer ASM, which was at best a slightly higher grade of filler than most of what Dan Slott was pumping out.

Just my theory, but I’ve always suspected this sort of thing was the result of SJW/ millenial Marvel creators making character & story decisions based on their own spite/ bitterness, rather than what would make the best sense for the character or the story… or the sales profits for that matter.
“Well I’m a social misfit who can’t seem to maintain an adult relationship, so I’ll be damned if I’m gonna do stories that celebrate something I want in real life but can never have.”

If they decide to make him gay, they can’t do it while he’s married. They’re clearing the way for that eventuality.

If I was Marvel I would like Peter live the mid 30s adult life juggling married and Miles do the teen to young adult date whoever under the sun.
