Hi Ashton,

I'm afraid I can't visualize what the problem is that you refer to. Are you using Filters? It sounds to me that HLOOKUP is not what you need here.

Hi Eugene, I'm wondering if you can help me with a problem I am facing on excel? If you have a drop down box in which you can select data I.e. say the category was fast food places say McDonald's, Burger King, subway etc, but when you select from the drop down box it would come up with say mc01 for McDonald's and say BK08 for Burger King, this isn't the case I need it for but it's easier to explain, so long story short how do you make the words in the drop down box appear as something else?

Hi Eugene, thanks for you reply. It hard to describe but do you know data verification where you create a drop down list, and in the list a want it to contain a list of locations, however these locations have a unique code which should be used, but as people don't know what the codes are off by heart I would rather them have to select the location in words from the drop down box, but it appears as the number code in the cell entry. I don't think HLOOKUP is what I need but not sure what is?

Hi Ashton,

I have not used "data verification" before, nor have I tried what you want to do. Apologies, but I don't have any suggestions for you here.
