About us: At the end of July, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

It was definitely hard to try and narrow down this list! We might have to make a part two at some point. Our question for you: If you're thinking about moving overseas, where would you go and why?

"People here work really hard - but they also relax really hard..." I think you said something true about us Germans and why we are so successfull without stressing us out.

My family and I sold everything and moved to Berlin 9 years ago. It has been both the hardest and the best years of our lives. Hardest because of the language and cultural readjustment (no amount of language classes and German clubs in the States can truly prepare you). Best because we have made a new life for ourselves, and we cannot even imagine going back to the States for more than a vacation to visit family.

I’m so happy I found your channel! We are about 10 months out from moving our (soon to be) family of 3 to Germany and I cannot wait! Schooling opportunities and work/life balance are our top 2 for sure.

Thank you for choosing Germany and your kind words about my/our country.
May everything work out great for you.
You might want to reach out to your fellow (American or otherwise) expats / immigrants here in Germany. For me the term immigrant does not have a negative conotation, which is why I used it for your family as well.
There are quite a few channels: Two Passports, Our Story To Tell, My Merry Messy Life, Life in Germany, Life in Düsseldorf, Simple Germany, Black Forest Family, Pursue What Matters Family, Soldier of Life, Ellie and Lucas, and many more.
All of them have listed similar reasons you did.

It's so nice to witness and be inspired by your adventures and observations and thought processes when, as a German, you're already a bit jaded and take everything here for granted. Great to have you here!

Just got your channel recommended, so first things first: Welcome to Germany!
And because you were choosing Leipzig as your new home: Besides the famous "Leipzig fair" which was well known abroad, you may not know but it also played a huge role in the peaceful revolusion leading to the reunification of Germany. I - as grown up in eastern Germany still remember attending the Monday demonstrations in 1989.

I am a german that was born, raised and still live in the Kaiserslautern/Ramstein Area. I am very grateful because I really love the rural surroundings, area, the palatinate forrest arround us and the fact that the french border is just 30 miles away which gives us a great opportunity to visit france for sightseeing, shopping and experience another great european country and its people, customs and landscape.
On the other side the Palatinate area and Ramstein are THE place with the highest number and biggest influence of americans/american culture outside the US. My german mom used to work on an US Airforce Base for 40 years of her life and married an US Airforce Officer when I was 17, so I had the privilege to become part of the US culture during my teen and twen years which gave me the opportunity to dive deep into the american while still beeing a german with one foot into france.
Last but not least I have a friend I know since Kindergarten times who moved to Berlin in his twenties And i still have contact and visit him 2 or 3 times a year which gives me a little knowledge about "eastern germany" and the russian influence in that part of germany.
After all I can say that I am really lucky and thankfull that I was born, raised and life in the middle of europe and have experieced the freedom of liberty after WW II, european culture, the american/western influence, the horrors of the iron curtain and the great decades of hope after the gorbatschow area, the collapse of the iron curtain and the possibilities to travel into eastern european countries without fear or remorse. I really do believe that I had the best times of my live living in germany during the last 40 years. These years were full of opportunities, freedom and possibilities I and WE took for granted! Now I look at the daily news in awe and horror, I look up to the skies and see/hear that the number of planes flying out of Ramstein AB has increased and I start to realize that all the benefis I took for granted were just sandcastles build on a beach before the big waves are coming in.
Nevertheless... Great video! Thanks for uploading and all the best for you and your family!!!

Watching your video made me a little homesick, but in a good way! Sometimes you have to leave your home to see all the beauty you couldn't see before. BUT I believe there is beauty everywhere in the world. I can definitely relate to the "adventure" part. You and your family will create lifetime memories that you will never forget! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Hey, I'm originally from Saxony, my sister and her family live in Leipzig and my parents in Chemnitz. I remember that my sister also wanted to have a bigger appartment and ended up buying a house. My mom is a teacher. Leipzig is trendy, a smaller version of Berlin, so I could imagine that it is difficult to find something adequate to live. Welcome to Germany.

Hey there - I found your channel just recently (you and your children checked out the "Ritter Sport" 🙂) and I just love how open minded you are! Germans are notorious for complaining all the time 🙄 - and I appreciate it so much how you and other folks from abroad that you are able and willing to share your Impressions with us. I think it's very helpful - sometimes even "eye opening" to overthink subjects/issues that we think are granted. I love that, really!

I also follow the channel "My merry messy life in Germany" from an US-Family with kids (and a cat) They live in Bavaria now and talk very openly about their highligts, normal life and their struggelings too.

It's so nice to have you here now - and I'm sure your kids will benefit from our school system 😀. I will follow your steps for sure!

So - I'm clearly NOT a native english- speaking person - but hope you got what I wanted to tell you 🤭

PS:If you will give the "Mousse au Chocolade" a try: It's ESSENTIAL to mix the Sugar/Egg yolk long ( 20min +) until it's a light yellowish colour - and then (the melted Chocolate and the whipped cream) is a "Kinderspiel", haha 🙃

You are the third family I see. all came to Germany.
We live in the northern part of Germany.
The nice thing is through the European Union you can travel everywhere.
So then, welcome to Germany, to a great adventure.
