Weird Al Yankovic has made a living off of parodying famous musicians. Most consider it a badge of honor to have this done. But there were 3 who refused the idea of Weird Al Yankovic doing so. Can you guess the 3 before watching this video???

I love that Weird Al doesnt technically have to ask permission but he does it anyway.

Tbh, I get where Beck's coming from. Dude didn't disrespect Al, just was concerned about his career

Like Paul, Al’s also a vegetarian. He considered rewriting the parody as “Tofu Pot Pie”, but it didn’t work as well so it was scrapped.

I have a lot of respect for Al asking permission from the artists.

"You know you've made it in the industry when Weird Al does parodies of your songs" - Kurt Kobain

I like the story about when he approached lady Gaga, but her manager turned him down. He said ok, but when Lady Gaga heard that her manager turned him town, she got upset and reminded the rejection and called weird al to let him know he could make the parodies.

I read that when he asked Curt Cobain for permission to parody "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Cobain asked him if it was gonna be about food. Cobain also said that you know you've arrived as a band when Weird Al parodies one of your songs.

“Yellow snow” the saddest “could have but never was”.

Weird Al is the only guy considerate enough to ask permission to make a parody. He was above a class act and there’s a reason people love him so much

The reason Lisa Simpson is a vegetarian is because of contractual agreement between Paul McCartney and the show makers of The Simpsons.

It was a condition of him appearing as a cameo on The Simpsons.

James Blunt was okay with Al parodying “You’re Beautiful” as “You’re Pitiful”, but Blunt’s record label, Atlantic Records, pressured Al’s label not to release it, who in turn pressured Al. Al has subsequently released it independently on various platforms and has performed it in concert, which he has every legal right to do.

Al made it clear that he would not release a song if he didn’t have the artist’s permission, but doesn’t give two fricks what the record label has to say about it. It’s the reason there’s that shot of Al’s computer monitor with “YOU SUCK!” as he’s editing Atlantic Records’ Wikipedia page In White and Nerdy.

Another one is Michael Jackson who refused "Black or white" because he felt that song had an important message that he didn't want want changed.

Michael was a fan of Al and loved the parodies he made of his other songs.

Beck seemed to have the most down to earth response, was worried about it ending his career but after it passed regretted not letting him do it. Good on him

At a music rewards ceremony, Weird Al was feeling out of place in a "Why am I here when all of these people re so much more talented than me" kinda way, when from the other side of the room, someone shouted out "Holy SHIT, it's WEIRD AL!"

That person was Paul McCartney

Im glad you didnt mention Coolio being upset by his parody Amish Paradise.

He was initially embarrassed by it, i think without having given it a listen. Then, years later he finally listened to it and loved it, and even humbled himself, realizing that Michael Jackson also got parodied and thought "if the King of Pop can be parodied, then who am I to think im better than that." He later made amends with Weird Al and became friendly with him. However, he didnt give up the anger over it, though he forgave Al, he then shifted his anger to his publicists, who let him act like a fool before instead of getting him to listen and appreciate the song.

He forgot to mention the part where Paul McCartney told him he could still do the Parody if he changed it to “Tofu Chicken Pot Pie”

Shows the kind of guy Al is, he is not required to get permission to parody any artist, but still does.

You know, it’s funny, the fact that weird Al respects the wishes of the artists shows what a class act he actually is. Like he’s not just doing it to make fun of people, he’s just trying to have fun.
