Versus when you're busy and get triple sat because Ashley can't handle another table yet and you have to wonder if the host is secretly mad at you

When I was a host sometimes I couldn't go in order because maybe the guest asked for a booth or maybe they wanted to sit in their favorite waiter's section or maybe one section doesn't have a big enough table. But the waiters never trust me about such things.

And at olive garden they have 4-5 hosts standing around staring at the screen

I was a host for 4 months. It was a nightmare. The servers bribed me to give them the sort of groups they wanted and to sit them more than once or to skip other servers they didn’t like or this that or the other. I made a lot of money off a few servers who really didn’t like each other.

Also when servers would randomly get upset at you for seating their section, because they wanted to try to go home early. Like cool, you kinda gotta let the host in on your plan. I’m 1000% certain another server would have loved that table

Hosting is a nightmare and serving is a nightmare. I’ve been both 😅

My first job was working as a busser
I was also the host and food runner all at the same time
So my daily tasks would be to clean tables and reset them, watch the door to seat people, assign a server to the table and let the server know which tables they have, answer the phone, take to-go orders, prep salads when asked, get desserts, ice the bar and waitress station, bring full bus buckets back to the kitchen and replace with empty ones, carry a full bucket of random liquids to the kitchen at the end of the shift, restock paper towels and containers, oh and get yelled at by co workers when I didn’t meet their incredibly high expectations while they hide in a corner to play on their phone

I was a host for about 9 months. We had all of this, reservations, cleaning the tables!, knowing how many each server has had including number of 6+ parties, it was stressful, but it showed that I can work those type of situations.

hostesses are so under appreciated, as an ex hostess it was nice to see this recognition

Oh god, at my first hosting job, I was thrown into all of it and not properly trained. I was never told about proper seating etiquette of everyone gets a turn, so I got yelled at my first day, it was great! 😅😂😭

I FELT THIS SO MUCH!!!! I worked as a hostess for a little bit at a restaurant close to where I live. And I didn’t stay very long because the amount of times I was yelled at for double seating someone because another server didn’t have the room!!! It was SO FRUSTRATING!

Hosting is a trip. So many stories of crazy, entitled customers. The one place I hosted/served for had a room of windows along one side - the brightest spot out of the whole restaurant and everyone wanted to sit in there. I always felt bad for the server who got the darkest section because people would always ask to move into the window room.

"...they seat everyone..."
Nobody SITS a table. A table was not SAT. Thank you a million times over for getting that right. I love our language and see it crumbling daily. Its a small thing, but it makes my heart smile when somebody gets it right.

I hated being a host. The servers would always get mad over the smallest things...

I hosted for a time, YEARS ago, and I still brag about running the list on Saturday nights. 🤣

Bring a hostess was one of the most stressful jobs I’ve ever had. I worked for a family owned business, so they were always so much more lenient to staff that were family. A host who was the managers nephew, consistently came in 3-4 hours late for every shift, and she never said anything. I also once had a server come over to my white board, and literally gave herself tables. Like girl I’m the hostess for a reason😒 Least to say it was one of my least favorite jobs and made me wary of working for family owned business ever again lol.
