Day in the Life of a Japanese All-Night Izakaya Restaurant Worker

This is a Day in the Life of a Japanese All Night Izakaya Drinking Restaurant Worker in Tokyo Japan. In Japan she is called an Okami, the head lady in charge of the restaurant, in this case a Japanese Izakaya. This is the typical day of a Japanese night worker or a Japanese person who works all night at an all-night restaurant in Tokyo. She works at Ginza Karin, an all-night Izakaya restaurant that offers traditional home-style Japanese cuisine with a wide selection of alcohol in one the most opulent areas of Tokyo, Ginza. She built this shop from nothing and now she’s serves as the Okami. The early-shift workers start the prep beforehand, just in time so she can check the dishes when she arrives, ensuring that each dish created meet the high quality standards she’s put in place. Her restaurant is located in the heart of the Ginza 7 chome / 8 chome district, renowned for its abundance of Japanese hostess clubs, with many of the hostesses in the area either wearing dresses or Kimonos just like Yuka. The Izakaya serves Obanzai, which are everyday Japanese side dishes made with seasonal ingredients, originating from traditional Kyoto-style home cooking. The dishes are usually served in large bowls lined up on the shop’s countertop for customers to able to see and choose. We follow her from her morning routine all the way until the end of her work night.

Wow, her job seems like a lot of work. Not only running the business but having to interact and entertain so many people. She’s killing it, no wonder she’s so successful!! Wish I knew about this place when I was in Tokyo

She is a prime example of a strong, confident, well liked and respected by her peers restaurant owner. All the employees seem to enjoy working with her and it shows through the passion and hard work they put into making that restaurant a success. I really loved this episode showcasing a strong Japanese woman.

Thanks so much for recommending this restaurant! I actually visited and had such a great time there. I really loved all the dishes and drinks there, especially the traditional obanzai.
Yuka was super nice. When she knew that I became aware of her store throughout your video, she was very happy and said that there have been other customers like me recently as well. Yuka agreed to take a photo with us when we left the store and waited for us as we walked away.

Wow, I gotta say, that’s an overachiever right there. Someone who loves what she does and is constantly pushing herself forward. First a nutritionist, then cooking sensei, then business owner in the food business, one of the toughest industries to be successful and one where you certainly fail if you don’t work hard. You can see how successful she is when most of her restaurant employees are actually her former students. Congratulations to her.

She is one of the happiest restaurant owners I've ever seen! Her staff sure know how to smile too! Upscale dining in Japan, wow.

The most impressive part is how she manages to drink throughout the whole service with her guests and still work at the highest standard, I would be passed out by 11 pm!

As someone who is socially awkward, women like this amaze me! To be able to make people comfortable, happy, relaxed, while still being a boss and managing a very successful business... I can't even imagine. All while also dressing in traditional clothing everyday, doing calligraphy, cooking, etc. She's so impressive and cool!

This is one of my favorite episodes! Yuka is so elegant and determined. She seems like a very good boss and business owner, taking care of her cilents and employees with grace and comfort. The atmosphere looked so fun, and it seemed like everyone in there was having a wonderful time. Perfect representation of a successful restaurant owner.

aww, even though this is an "establishment of the night" the vibe is so cute, all the staff seem like great friends and a great team. Plus it's so admirable seeing Yuka run her own business, all while wearing a Kimono! Also the way she carries herself and how she interacts with her customers is so friendly and humbling, really inspiring :')

I think the title should be renamed as "Day in the Life of a Japanese All-Night Izakaya Restaurant Owner".
It's really inspiring how she used her passion for cooking to develop her career and eventually even opened her own izakaya.

Wow! This has to be my fav Day in a Life episode. Love Yuka-san’s energy, positivity, determination, single-handedly managing her business, interacting with her customers, engaging with her staff, working non-stop all night, earning well to pay rent, salaries to her staff to owning her home in Tokyo and carrying everything with her beautiful smile. Gorgeous! 🫶🏼

Been waiting for another Day in the Life Video! Obviously scheduling, filming and editing on top family life is time consuming so thanks for all the hard work!

She is a clear headed, goal oriented all rounded person. On surface, it’s a izakaya selling alcohol but in fact she created a third place within the community. I wish she keeps up her energy and attitude!

You know this is no ordinary mom and pop shop! So much elegance and class just by looking at her. Also the location of this restaurant in dead center of Ginza means it’s one hell of a restaurant to be there! Kyoto dishes are lightly flavored compared and has such delicate taste so I can tell it’s no ordinary Izakaya. I came back to the U.S. after a week in Kyoto and I realized how much sodium is used and how vibrant American food is since my palate got so used to the delicate flavors of Kyoto. I couldn’t use ketchup or salsa at first since it was way too strong of a flavor.

What a beautiful video. The standard the young woman has set for herself. The upholding of tradition, the determination, the excellent attitude. Great profile Paolo. This is excellence.

Dang no wonder why she is never in the red, she works insanely hard! Her attitude though and lifestyle is honestly fascinating! I love how she even structures her meals around what's well rounded for her health and she takes attention to detail serious. This might be one of my favorite episodes, what a cool look into a different type of job. I was a bit shocked she woke up at noon. I used to work graveyards shifts myself but that's a rough schedule.

Yuka is so amazing!!! I met her in New York years ago and when friends of mine visited Japan she was so kind to meet us, show us around, and even show us how to make delicious vegan snacks. I wish her so much success and happiness! (not that she needs the wishes though, you can see she is very smart and capable - she really shines in the video 🌟)
